Magnolia Falls to John Marshall in Moundsville

Hoping to pick up their fourth win on the season the Magnolia Blue Eagles traveled up river to John Marshall on Thursday night, February 23, but came home on the short end of a 57-43 score to fall to 3-19 on the season.

The Blue held their own throughout much of the game and led by four 14-10 at the end of the first quarter, and led early in the second period 16-10, however the home team came back and took a 30-23 lead at the halftime break.

Magnolia continued to fight back and trailed by just one point in the fourth quarter 38-37 before the Monachs went on an 11-4 run to go up by 10 with just three minutes to play. John Marshall got a couple inside baskets and good free throw shooting to end the game.

Magnolia received a fine effort from Hayden Pyles who finished the night as the games top scorer with 16 points and six rebounds, plus four assists and three steals. Brady Kocher ended with a double-double, 14 points and 10 boards. Also hitting in double figures was Dubale Greathouse who canned 11 points. Brayden Vargo rounded out the Blue Eagle scoring with two points.

John Marshall had four players score in twin digits, with Grey hitting for 14, Bre. Sobutka , Muldrew and Shlick all adding 11 points. The Monarchs grabbed 32 rebounds to Magnolia’s 28. They also went 11-15 from the free throw line, while the Blue Eagles could hit just 4-13.

Magnolia made 19 shots from the floor, including one 3-pointer, while the Monarchs made 21 field goals, including four 3’s.
