Lady Wildcats Get Revenge Over Bridgeport

The visiting Paden City Lady Wildcats got revenge over the Lady Bulldigs of Bridgeport by the score of 47-37 on Monday night January 30. The Wildcats, who just two days earlier, suffered a 10 point loss to the Bulldogs in Bridgeport turned the tables with the victory. The Lady Cats trailing 22-21 at halftime used a tough defense in the third period to jump out to a 31-26 lead heading to the fourth. Kim Burch took over in the fourth quarter scoring 11 of her 14 points to lead the Cats.

McKenzie Thomas led the scoring with 16 points four rebounds and four steals followed by Kim Burch with 14 points four rebounds and seven steals. Ashton Wade chipped in with eight points and Lexi Mathis added seven points with three steals. Jocelyn Sawinski, although not scoring, was dominate on the boards pulling down 12 rebounds to go along with four steals. “We played as a team and put forth a good effort of the defensive side last night. We have to keep this style up for the next three games and roll it into sectional play,” said Coach Fulks.

With the win the Lady Cats will host a second round game in the OVAC Tournament in Paden City on Thursday February 2 against Connonton Valley.

Paden City Girls Win Thriller in Final Seconds

The Lady Wildcats of Paden City completed a two game sweep in the OVAC Tournament by defeating Conotton Valley on Thursday February 2 in a tight 43-41 win. Tied at halftime 22-22 the Wildcats pulled out the victory with just seconds to go. Kim Burch hit a bucket with 14 seconds to play to give the Lady Cats a one point lead. Freshmen Ashton Wade made a big steal on the ensuing possession and was fouled. She stepped to the line and hit one of two shots to extend the lead to two points with four seconds left. McKenzie Thomas led the attack with a double double scoring 21 points, pulling down 14 rebounds and had six steals. She was followed by Kim Burch with 12 and Lexi Mathis with seven points.

“Although Ashton only scored one point tonight it was at a crucial point in the game. It was a complete team victory,” said Coach Josh Fulks.

Next up the Lady Cats will make the long trip to Tygarts Valley on February 9.
