Lady Wildcats Drop Close One to Weirton Madonna

Paden City and Weirton Madonna girls basketball met up on Monday night January 23 in the Bob Burton Gymnasium in Paden City in a key match up for sectional seeding. The game was close throughout with the Lady Blue Dons coming out on top 45-37.

The first half saw multiple lead changes with Weirton Madonna taking a three point lead 23-20 to the locker room at halftime. The third quarter proved to be the difference is Madonna out scored the Lady Wildcats 13-7. The fourth quarter saw each team put up nine points. Sportsmanship was definitely not in play as Madonna was called for two technical fouls in the first half giving the Wildcats four points from the three throw line.

Thomas again led the Wildcats with 20 points and seven rebounds. She was aided by Kim Burch with eight points and three rebounds. Ashton Wade did her job on the boards pulling down a team high 11 rebounds to go along with four points.

“This was a very tough loss,” said a disappointed Coach Fulks.

Next up for Wildcats is a home game with Meadow Bridge on Friday January 27 followed by a match up with Bridgeport, Ohio on the road on Saturday January 28.

Wildcats Lose to Wildcats

It was Wildcats versus Wildcats on Friday night January 27 as the Lady Wildcats of Paden City played host to the Lady Wildcats of Meadow Bridge High School. Meadow Bridge came into the game with a record of 11-1 but the long bus trip took its toll as the Wildcats of Paden City jumped out to an early 13-2 lead midway through the first period. The second quarter belonged to Meadow Bridge as they dusted off the jet lag and took the lead at halftime by the score of 24-18. Paden City came back in the third period outscoring Meadow Bridge 15-7 to take back the lead 33-31 at the end of three quarters. The Lady Wildcats of Paden City could not hold on in the fourth as Meadow Bridge outscored Paden City 19-4 to take the victory 50-37.

Senior McKenzie Thomas continued her hot shooting scoring a game high 21 points with eight rebounds and four steals to lead the Wildcats of Paden City. Ashton Wade followed with six points and Kim Burch and Jocelyn Sawinski each adding four points. Lexi Mathis rounded out the scoring with two points.

Paden City will need to rest up quickly as they travel to Bridgeport, Ohio for an afternoon game on Saturday January 28.

Lady Wilcats Fall to to Bridgeport. Ohio

The Lady Wildcats traveled to Bridgeport, Ohio on Saturday, January 28 and came home on the short end of a 10 point loss 49-39. The Lady Cats built a halftime lead 22-17 but a big third quarter by Bridgeport scoring 17 points proved to be the difference.

Bridgeport’s defense held Paden City to 14 of 46 shooting and high scoring McKenzie Thomas to just six points on three of nine from the floor. Lexi Mathis did her best to pick up the slack pumping in a career high 15 points to go with three steals. She was aided by Kim Burch with six points and Ashton Wade with five.
