Magnolia Boys Thump Tyler Consolidated
Magnolia picked up it’s initial win of the season on Thursday night, January 26, in New Martinsville with a convincing 73-47 victory over a Tyler Consolidated team whoás lost five of their last six games. The 1-12 Blue Eagles took a first half lead 35-20 over the Silver Knights and nbever looked back in securing their first win of the season.
In the first quarter Magnolia got 3-pointers from Brayden Vargo and Kingston Christen, while Haden Pyles and Dubale Greathouse added four points each to jump in front14-11. However the Blue Eagle defense held the Knights in check in the second frame allowing only nine points while scoring 21 to boost their advantage. Brady Kocher had five in the second frame, while Greathouse and Christen each had five in the quarter. Hayden Brown had 10 first half points for the Silver Knights
The third quarter saw Magnolia add to their lead with an 11-9 run to make it 46-29 with eight minutes to go. Both team scored well in the final quarter, but the Blue Eagles canned four 3ás in the period and ended with 27 points to the Silver Knights 18 to pick up the win.
Balanced scoring for the Blue Eagles was a key in the contest as they received double figures from four players with Greathouse and Christen each netting 16 to tie for game scoring honors. Pyes cashed in with 15 points, while Kocher added 12. Jordan Gilbert finished with eight on the night, including a pair of 3ás.
Also adding to the Magnolia scorebook was Vargo and Carter Clegg with three points each. In all the Blue hit 27 shots from the floor, including seven 3-pointers, while going 11-18 from the free throw line.
The Silver Knights were led by Brown with 15 points, including a three ball, followed by Conner Bailey who hit double figures with 12, including a three. Brady Strode added eight, including a 3-pointer, while Carson Gorby hit for six and Garon Broughman got four. Zade Billings with two rounded out the Knights scoring.
Magnolia led in rebounds 33-21 with Kocher grabbing nine and Pyles pulling down eight. Pyles had six assists and four steals, while Greathouse and Vargo each had four steals.
The Silver Knights ended with 17 field goals, including three 3ás and went 10-18 from the free throw line.
