Wheeling Central Catholic Bests Blue Eagles
The Maroon Knights hit 15 three point shots on Tuesday night, in New Martinsville, on their way to a 34 point 96-62 victory over the winless Blue Eagles.
The visitors, led by juniors Quinton Burlewski and Troy Anthony with eight and six points respectively in the first quarter, never trailed as they led 26-10 after the first eight minutes and increased the lead to 53-25 at the half. Both Anthony and Burlewski had 15 points at the break. Anthony finished the contest with a game high 27 points, including seven 3-pointers. Burlewski finished with 17 on the night while Eli Dean added 16, and 6-4freshman Max Blejasz hit for 10.
Hayden Pyles led the Blue Eagles with 25 points, including four 3ás. The Blue got 11 points each from Dubale Greathouse, Christen Kingsten, and Brady Kocher. Brayden Vargo and Carter Clegg each hit for two points.
The Maroon Knights ranked 8th in the latest WV State Class AA poll, had 10 players dent the scoreboard, while Magnolia had four in double figures but just six scoring. Central won every quarter taking the third frame 22-18 and the fourth 18-13. The Maroon Knights hit 38 shots from the floor, including 15 from beyond the arc, and went 5-7 from the free throw line. Magnolia canned 26 baskets from the floor, including seven 3ás and went 3-4 from the charity stripe.The loss dropped Magnolia to 0-10 on the season while Central improved to 7-5.
