Valley Girls Romp Over Notre Dame
Valley took charge early and never let up in defeating Notre Dame high school 69-10 in girls basketball action on Friday night in Pine Grove. The Lumberjills held the Fighting Irish scoreless in the first half leading 32-0 at the break, with Winter Higgins getting 11 of her game high points 21 in the half. She added 10 more in the second half, while Laken Dawson finished with 11 in the contest. All 10 players on the Valley roster saw plenty of action and all 10 scored.
The Lumberjills received eight points each from Harli Rush and Andrea Thomas, while Cheyanne Higgins and Evi Booher each added six points. Iesha Quinn hit a 3-pointer, and Charity Bates, Michaela Miller, and Alexis Highly each added two.
The visitors only had three players dent the scoreboard with Lily Gregory leading the way with five points, followed by Emily Beston who hit a three, and Piper Fryer ith two points.
The home team Lumberjills hit 28 shots from the floor, including three from beyond the arc and made 4-10 free throws in the contest. Rush, Thomas and Booher all grabbed seven rebounds and Winter Higgins added six steals, while Rush had four steals. The win moved the Lumberjills to 8-7 on the season.
Lumberjills Get Road Win At South Harrison
Visiting Valley high school led by 21 points from Winter Higgins, the Lumberjills came from behind on Wednesday night, in South Harrison to gain a 41-35 victory and even their record to 7-7 on the season.
The home team Hawks jumped on top early hitting three 3-pointers in the first quarter to take a 14-6 lead. However in the second frame the Lumberjills tightened the defense and outscored the Hawks 12-6 to pull to within a basket at the half 20-18.
Valley continued to pressure the home team and in the third period held them to just 3 points on their way to taking the lead with eight minutes to play 28-23. It was a close fourth quarter with the Lumberjills adding a point to their lead by outscoring the home squad 13-12 for the win.
Besides Higgins 21 points, including two 3ás and a 9-14 showing from the free throw line, she also added four rebounds and three steals. The Lumberjills received eight points and four boards from Harli Rush and seven points and four boards from Laken Dawson, who hit two 3-pointers. Cheyanne Higgins and Charity Bates each added two points, and Higgins grabbed 10 rebounds. Evi Booher hit a free throw, and had four rebounds.
South Harrison was led by Hallie Bland with a team high 17 markers, including three 3-pointers. She got scoring help from Reagan Rudder with seven points.
Valley hit 12 shots from the floor, including four three pointers and went 13-23 from the free throw line. South Harrison hit 10 field goals, including five 3ás and went 10-16 from the foul line.
Valley Girls fall to Powerful Dragons
The Lumberjills played host to the state ranked Dragons of Cameron on Monday night, January 17, in Pine Grove and came out on the short end of a 68-23 score.
Cameron had it all going on Monday as they never allowed a scorer for the home team to hit double figures with the Lumberjills Harli Rush knocking in five points to lead the way. Meanwhile the No. 2 ranked Dragons received 21 points from All-State candidate Ashlyn Van Tassell and 11 points each from MacI Neely and Emily Dobbs.
Cameron has just two defeats on the season despite playing one of the toughest Class A schedules. Valley meanwhile fell to 6-7 on the season,
