Magnolia’s Past 1000 Pointers Scorers Return

For those sports enthusiast who quote sport status, try and recall those Blue Eagle players who scored 1000 or more in their high school career. Give up? Well here is a clue. Since 1961 there has been 23 Magnolia players who have scored over 1000 points? Can’t remember? Well here is an easy one, who is the player whose career ran from 2012 to 2016 and scored more points than any other player in school history? Don’t know, it is Preston Boswell with a career total of 2519 points. His career lasted from 2012 through 2016 season.

Want to know more, well you are in luck. This Saturday January 28, at the New Martinsville Rotary Challenge beginning at11 am Ritchie County girls will play Magnoliaás girls. At 12:45 the boys games begin and Trinity will pay Williamstown. Then at 2:30 Morgantown will play John Marshall. Next on the lineup will be Morgantown JV playing Magnolia JV. Then to conclude the day Magnolia will play Brooke at 6 PM. During half time, a ceremony will be held honoring twenty-three past athletes for the accomplishments during their careers. And having scored over a 1000 points.

First to accomplish this 1000 level was Carter Castilow who played from 1957 to 1061. He scored a total of 1240 points. Next was Jack Starcher who player from 1961 to 1965. During Jackás career he scored 1223 points. Following Jack was Tim Shepard. Tim was member of the Blue Eagles from 1969 until 1973. During those years he scored 1054 points. In 1980 Shari Moellendick was the first Lady Blue Eagle to join the ranks of 1000 scorers. From 1980 until 1984 Shari Scored 1200 points. Following her was Christy Smith Playing from 1981 until 1985 Christy scored 1166 points.

John Boswell in 1989 scored an impressive 1293 during his four year career. Ted Talkington took to the court in 2000. From the first year until 2004 Ted scored an outstanding 2024 points. After Ted four Blue Eagle Ladies for the next dozen years racked up a total of 4,581 between them. In 1996 Ashlea Bland scored 1357 points during her four year career. Katie Blatt followed from 2001 until 2005 scoring 1142 points. Allison Rothlisberger during the same four years scored 1351 points. In 2006 Ashley McSweeney put 1076 point on the score board. In 2008 Alycia Bell completed her high school career with 1012 points.

Jared Blatt was able to 1127 on the score board between 2006 and 2010. In 2007 Padyn Ludewig was able to put the ball through the hoop for a career total of 1432 points. Mark Winters began his varsity career in 2009. By the time he reach the conclusion of his senior season in 2013 he had put 2054 in his point column. Mallory Chapman career ran from 2010 through 2014. During her four years she racked up 1289 points. Spencer Campbell from 2011 to 2015 exceed by scoring 1077 points. Grace Berisford began her career in 2012. By the end of her senior year in 2016 she had 1365 career points.

In 2013 Kelsi Chapman joined the Blue Eagle team. By the end of her senior year she had scored 1252 point Kelsi joined her sister Mallory in the 1000 point club. In 2016 Kyndra Pilant began her high school career. By the finish of her senior year in 2020 she had put 1530 in to her point column.

In 2018 Trevor Williamson joined the varsity team and racked up 1158 point by the end of his senior year in 2022. Mady Winters finished her career in 2021 and scored 1594 points. Mady joined her brother Mark Winters as a member of the 1000 point club.

Scoring a 1000 points during a four year career is a major accomplishment for any player. But it should be noted the one other player who did not reach this mile stone is remembered by the true Blue Eagle historians. In 1957 Jim McCormick finished his career with 957 points. This milestone of points was achieved when varsity players were only allowed to play two years. And it was not until 1980 that the three point line was put into place helping players add points their career averages.

To honor these 1000 point alumina players, a banner has been created with their names, years played and total points scored. The banner was made possible by this sponsors, Charlie Morris Grasshopper League, The New Martinsville Moose Lodge, Pasco’s, Sistersville Eye care center, Jarvis Williams Funeral Home, Wayside Furniture, Doctor Anderson, George V. Hamilton, Michael Trahern, Captains Quarters, Magnolia FFA, Quinets, Jim Klug and Blue Racer Midstream. The banner will be in place that evening.
