Pilots Cruise Past Frontier
River high school made the trip down stream to Frontier high school worthwhile on Tuesday night, December 3, as they came away with a repeat win over the Cougars 57-37 to move to 9-2 on the season.
The Pilots jumped in front early and never looked back as they used a pressure defense to cause 24 turnovers and had three players hit in double figures to keep the home team at bay. Leading the way for the visiting River Squad was 6-1 senior Ty Long who pumped in 21 game high points, including a 3-pointer, while going 4-4 from the free throw line. He also added four steals and nine rebounds.
Backing him on the night was senior Brody Lollathin with 14 markers, including two 3ás and 2-2 from the charity stripe. River Thompson cased in 11 points, including three from beyond the arc, while junior guard Kabel Isaly canned two 3-pointers and ended with eight points. Sophomore Peyton Blue ended with a basket and a free throw for three points, to round out the scoring.
The Pilots who led by 26 midway through the second half ended with 20 field goals and went 7-9 from the free throw line. They had a 37-23 rebound advantage. Frontier received 12 points from Powell and nine from Curtis to lead the way. They ended with 15 made field goals and went 5-12 from the free throw line. Powell hit a pair of three balls.
River Boys Get Revenge Win
Visitng River high school avenged an early season loss with an easy 54-32 win over Barnseville on Friday night, to run their record to 10-2 on the campaign.
Doing most of the damage to the Shamrocks on Friday was junior guard Kabel Isaly and senior Ty Long with 19 and 17 points respectively. Isaly knocked in three from beyound the arc and went 2-2 from the free throw line, while also adding six assists and five steals. Long whoás been on a scoring roll lately hit six field goals and went 5-6 from the free throw line while also pulling down seve rebounds.
Senior Brody Lollathin had a nice game with barely missing a double-double with nine points and 11 boards. River Thompson added five markers, including a 3-pointer, and Peyton Blue hit four points. The Pilots defense caused 23 turnovers, while they hit 20 shots from the floor and went 10-12 from the line.
Barnseville played catchup from the first quarter on but struggled to get consistent scoring with only Cas. Carpenter cracking double digits with 12 points, including two 3ás. The home team only hit 13 shots all night and was 3-5 from the free throw line.
