Blue Eagles Get Win Over Madonna
The Blue Eagles shot out to a five point first quarter lead on Tuesday, December 27, to defeat the Blue Dons of Madonna 42-26 in the Parkersburg Catholic Mary O girls basketball tournament. The Eagles started fast with back to back baskets by Shaela Holliday and Lauren Gaiser for a 4-0 lead they would never lose. By halftime Magnolia led 20-12 first half points.
Following the intermission Magnolia built on their lead with a 14-9 third quarter with Jenna Blain hitting six points in the period and Holliday and Gaiser each adding four for a 34-21 lead heading down into the final eight minutes of play. Magnolia would then outscore the Blue Dons 8-5 to pick up the win.
Shea McCoy of Madonna would end up as the games top scorer asshe hit for 15 of her teams 26 points. However the Blue Eagles with three double digits scorers, Gaiser and Holliday each with 12 and Blain with 11 proved to be too much. Also adding to the Magnolia scorecard were Sienna McKeever with three points, while Makia Litton and Mallory McDiffitt each added two. The BlueEagles hit 19 field goals in the contest and casked in 4-14 from the free throw line, to improve to 5-3 on the season.
Magnolia Girls Fall to Parkersburg Catholic
The Lady Blue Eagles traveled to Parkersburg Catholic on Monday, December 26 to take on the home team in the Crusader holiday basketball tournament. The home team jumped out to an early lead and never let up as they cruised to an easy 60-33 victory over the Eagles.
Catholic went up 19-7 after eight minutes of play and used an 11-6 second quarter to take a 30-13 halftime lead. Deborah Hardbarger pumped in 12 of her game high 17 points in the first half with eight field goals and 3-3 from the free throw line.Shaela Holliday who led Magnolia had six of her team high 12 points in the half.
The third quarter saw the home squad score 15 points to the visitors nine to make it 45-22 heading into the last eight minutes. The final period was won 15-11 by the home team to give them the 27 point win. Backing Hardbarger for the Crusaders was Jocelynn Thorn who added16 points including three 3-pointers. Izzy Deangelo hit for eight points, while Mary Tokodi Roth and Akhia Miller each got seven. Morgan Sampson added five,
Supporting Holliday for the Blue Eagles was Jenna Blain with six, while Makia Litton, Lexi Williams, Erika Perry, and Lauren Gaiser all added three points. Mallory McDiffitt hit two and Sienna McKeever added a free throw.
The Crusaders hit 24 field goals, including six 3ás and went 5-11 from the free throw line. Magnolia hit 12 from the floor, including three 3ás and went 7-14 from the line.
