‘Jills Beat Knights
The Valley Lumberjills outscored Tyler Consolidated 19-11 in the fourth period to help them claim a 58-50 in the Region I, Section II, at St. Marys High School Feb. 23.
The ‘Jills held a 14-10 advantage after one period of play and a 31-21 advantage at the break. However, the Lady Knights pulled even heading into the final period before the ‘Jills went on their game-winning run.
Madison Arnolds scored a game-high 18 points to pace Valley, while teammate Kaitlyn Brown contributed 10 points that included a pair of baskets from beyond the arc. Sophie Palmer stuffed the stat sheet with nine points and dished out nine assists, while Rachel Baker and Cassidy Price each scored eight markers. Price also contributed a game-high nine rebounds.
In addition, Melanie Thomas and Erin Brown each netted a deuce and Sarah Bassett hit a free throw.
The ‘Jills will move on to play the top seed St. Marys Blue Devils in the semifinals of the Region I, Section II sectionals Tuesday at Doddridge County High School.
