‘Jacks Too Much For Hornets, 85-56

Hayden Lancaster scored 18 points, including a basket from downtown to help propel the Valley Lumberjacks to a 85-56 victory over the Hundred Hornets Feb. 20 in Pine Grove.

The Lumberjacks outscored the Hornets 24-17 in the opening stanza and put the hammer down in the second period for a convincing 40-23 advantage at the break.

The Hornets put up 21 markers in the third, while Valley sank 17 to close the gap a little, but the ‘Jacks dropped in 28 more points in the final period and held Hundred to a dozen to claim the nod.

Tucker Cain followed Lancaster with 17 points, while Joey Preat netted 14 points and Alex Madcap came off the bench to drain 11 points. In addition, Jack Wells sank eight points, while Trey Streets provided six points that included a basket from beyond the arc. Dylan Irvin swished a pair of two pointers, while Peyton Palmer tickled the twin from long range. Lathe Ueltschy and Kinsey Utt each sank a deuce for all the Lumberjack scoring.

Holden Moore sank a game-high 22 points, including a trio of bonus bombs, while Brandon Armstrong sank 19 points to pace the Hornets. Danny Stewart chipped in seven markers, while Hunter Goddard drained a threeball. Joe Mars and Derek Crihfield each knocked in a deuce for all the Hornet scoring.

Hundred spent much of the game at the free throw line, but sank only 13-34 free throws, while the ‘Jacks made 10-16.
