Valley ‘Jills Win Division II H.I.T. Title

The Valley Lumberjills raced out to a 17-0 first quarter lead, held a 36-6 lead at the break and coasted to a 59-24 victory over Meadow Bridge to win the H.I.T. Division II Championship at Cameron High School Feb. 1.

Sophie Palmer and Madison Arnolds combined for 38 points that earned them a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Palmer also sank a triple and made seven steals, while Arnolds swatted away a pair of Meadow Bridge shots.

In addition, Sarah Bassett was one point from earning a double-double, nine points and 11 rebounds, while Cassidy Price and Kaitlyn Brown each recorded four points.

Cassidy West and Melanie Thomas each knocked in a deuce, while Erin Brown made our steals and rejected a Meadow Bridge shot.

Cameron 49, Valley 40

The Cameron Dragons used a 16-6 second period run and held off a determined Valley Lumberjill squad to claim a 49-40 victory Jan. 29 in Cameron.

Madison Arnolds and Erin Brown scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, to pace the ‘Jills, while Sophie Palmer sank three baskets. Cassidy Price and Sarah Bassett each netted four markers, while Rachel Baker and Kaitlyn Brown each sank a deuce.

Valley 85, Beallsville 49

The Valley Lumberjills evened their record at 8-8 as 10 ‘Jill players scored points, with four hitting in double figures, en route to an 85-49 victory over the Lady Blue Devils Jan. 27 in Beallsville.

Sophie Palmer led all scorers with 15 markers and seven assists, while Erin Brown sank 13.

Madison Arnolds and Sarah Bassett each netted a dozen, while Kaitlyn Brown tallied eight points. Bassett also pulled in nine rebounds.

In addition, Cassidy West, Rachel Baker and Cassidy Price each recorded six markers and Melanie Thomas and Maggie Ueltschy each sank a deuce.

Talitha Bedford of Beallsville led all scorers on her team with 19 points.
