Bishop Take Out Eagles
Preston Boswell scored 28 points, including five triples, but couldn’t quite get past Bishop Donahue Jan. 22 in front of a standing room only crowd at Bishop Donahue High School.
Donahue raced out to a 7-2 run to open the game, but Magnolia stormed back to knot the game at nine. Boswell drained a triple from beyond the arc that gave the Eagles the lead at 14-11 late in the first period.
Bishop tied it up at 14, but Boswell and Spencer Campbell sank a deuce and a pair of charity tosses to take an 18-14 advantage after eight minutes of play.
Bishop Donahue would score 21 of the first 28 points in the second frame that built a 35-27 advantage for them. After a pair of Mitch Winters free throws, Boswell drained another triple and it appeared that the teams would end the first half of non-stop action by trading baskets.
However, Donahue tipped in a deuce at the buzzer to give the Bishops a 42-31 halftime lead.
Both teams traded buckets early in the third frame that brought the score to 48-38 and Magnolia didn’t challenge again until late in the game when they finished with a 14-6 run to end the game at 86-76, Bishop Donahue.
Boswell led the way with 27 markers, while Winters netted 19 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for a double-double.
In addition, Campbell and Kyle Ritz each netted 15 points, while Tyler Williamson netted a deuce.
Taylor Straugh led all scorers for Bishop with 30 points.
