St John 89, Hundred 51

St. John defeated the Hundred Hornets 89-51 Jan. 15 in Bellaire, despite a team-high 17 points from Hundred’s Andrew King, who also grabbed five rebounds, made four steals and slapped away a shot.

Holden Moore and Danny Stewart each sank 13 markers, with Moore hitting a pair of threeballs and Stewart grabbing five boards and blocking an Irish shot. Brandon Armstrong scored six points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked a shot.

Danny Kolat swished a deuce, while rejecting four St. John shots and dishing out five assists.

In the junior varsity game, Derek Crihfield sank seven markers and Kolat and Logan Moore tallied six and five points, respectively. But it wasn’t strong enough to get past St. John, who won 44-29.

Beallsville 62, Hundred 61

Andrew King scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down seven boards, but the Beallsville Blue Devils outscored Hundred 21-17 in the fourth period to win 62-61 in a thriller Jan. 16 in Blue Devil territory.

Holden Moore added 15 markers, while Danny Stewart sank nine and Hunter Goddard scored seven points. Brandon Armstrong added four points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, while Joe Mars, Danny Kolat and Derek Crihfield each sank a deuce.

Hundred drained 24 shots from the floor, five more than Beallsville. But the Blue Devils cashed in 17-32 charity tosses, while the Hornets were only 7-16, which proved to be the difference in the game.

After a home game with Valley Tuesday, the Hornets will open the H.I.T. Jan. 23 against Harmon at 7 p.m. in the Hornets Nest.

Wood County Christian 60,

Paden City 39

Cydney Blatt recorded a double-double, 11 points and 13 rebounds, but it wasn’t quite enough to get past the home-standing Wood County Christian, who won 60-39 Jan. 15.

Malayna Price contributed eight points and eight rebounds, while Hannah Stanley and Chelsea Baker each finished with six tallies. In addition, Aubrey Neff netted four markers, while Kayla Hizer and Darien Ritchie each sank a deuce.

River 51, Shadyside 48

Shadyside outscored River 5-2 in overtime to claim a 51-48 victory Jan. 16 in Shadyside.

The Pilots captured an 11-5 advantage after one period of play. But the Tigers outscored the Pilots 16-9 in the second to take a slim 21-20 advantage at the break and they led by a deuce heading into the final period.

Lukas Isaly paced the Pilots with 19 points that included three baskets from beyond the arc, while Ryan Indermuhle sank 13 points and Cole Isaly six points. Parker Caretti and Matt Gauding each scored four points, while Brandon Smith cashed in on a deuce.

The Pilots host Magnolia Tuesday and then will host St. Clairsville Jan. 27 with both games getting underway at 6 p.m.

Bridgeport 59, River 55

The Bridgeport Bulldogs outscored the River Pilots 6-2 in overtime to claim a 59-55 victory Jan. 13 at Bridgeport.

Both teams scored 11 points in the opening quarter, but the ‘Dogs out-scored the Pilots 11-7 in the second period. The Pilots then got over on Bridgeport 35-31 to knot the game at 53.

Lukas Isaly scored a team-high 16 points that included a triple, while Cole Isaly knocked in 15 that included two baskets from beyond the arc. Ryan Indermuhle add a dozen that also included one from long range, while Jarrett Armann netted six points. In addition, Joey Flannery knocked down two baskets, while Brandon Smith swished a deuce.

Cameron 66, Valley 59

Trey Streets sank six baskets from beyond the arc, but it wasn’t quite enough to get past the once-beaten Cameron Dragons, 66-59 in Pine Grove Wednesday, Jan. 13.

The Lumberjacks took a 17-13 lead after one period of play, while the Dragons fought back to take a 29-28 lead at the break.

Cameron took no prisoners in the second half, outscoring Valley 39-23 to gain the nod. Logan and Trey Routt scored 19 and 16 points, respectively, to lead the Dragons.

Streets led the Lumberjacks with 22 points, while Tucker Cain tallied 15 markers and Joey Preat recorded 10 points. Hayden Lancaster and Dylan Irvin each sank a deuce.

Clay-Battelle 61, Valley 53

Sophie Palmer and teammate Erin Brown scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, but it wasn’t quite enough to get past Clay-Battelle Monday in Blacksville, where the host won 61-53.

Rachel Baker added eight markers, while Madison Arnolds and Kaitlyn Brown each recorded six points. Sarah Bassett netted four markers, while Cassidy Price and Cassidy West each drained a deuce for all the Lumberjill scoring.

The 6-7 Lumberjills look to even their record Thursday, Jan. 22 at home against the Morgantown Trinity Lady Warriors at 7 p.m.

Magnolia Freshmen Boys

The Magnolia Blue Eagle boys’ freshman team has won four and lost two, dropping to the River Pilots 54-45 and the Wheeling Park (Blue) 44-40. However, they defeated Tyler Consolidated 52-47, Linsly 53-39, Monroe Central 45-32 and Paden City 36-29.

The freshman team has scored 261 points in the six games and has given up 245 points. Jarrett Moore has been the top scorer with 63 markers for six games, while Brooks Parsons has netted 53 points in three games before moving up to the varsity and junior varsity squads.

DeMarco Smith followed with 50 points in his six games played, while Devin Shimp and William Nice tallied 27 and 21 points, respectively, in five games. Michael Estep and Stanley Moore each scored a deuce in the Tyler Consolidated contest.

The team, along with veteran MHS Boys’ Freshmen Head Coach Larry West, will travel up river to Wheeling to face the Wheeling Park (Red) tonight and then go to Tyler Consolidated Saturday.
