Lumberjills Lose Opener, 44-42

By Staff | Dec 10, 2014

A late 11-0 run in the fourth period wasn’t quite enough for the Valley Lumberjills to get past Notre Dame in a mutual season-opener in which the Irish prevailed 44-42 Dec. 2 in Clarksburg.

“I put out a challenge to the girls at the beginning of the fourth period and they responded well,” said Valley Head Coach Jeff Derby. “

We had too many turnovers to start the game and dug ourselves into a big hole. But, I was proud of the way the girls responded with their effort.”

Maddison Arnolds paced the Lumberjills with 15 markers, while Erin Brown stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots.

Sophie Palmer added five points, six steals and three assists, while Sarah Bassett led the way in rebounds with 12 boards.
