‘Jacks Succumb To Silver Knights

By Staff | Nov 5, 2014

Tyler Consolidated took advantage of four Valley Lumberjack interceptions, en route to a 26-22 victory Oct. 31 at Silver Knight Stadium.

Tyler scored on an early 21-yard TD run, and, after the two-point conversion pass the Knights held an 8-0 advantage. However, Valley’s Trey Streets scored the first of his two touchdowns on a nice right-yard scamper to pull to within a deuce after the failed PAT.

The Lumberjacks took the lead in the second period on a Streets 70-yard run that gave the visitors a 12-8 advantage early in the second period.

However, the Knights answered with a four-yard TD run on their next drive to go in front 14-12. Right before the break, the Lumberjacks’ Peyton Palmer split the uprights from 20 yards out to give the Lumberjacks a 15-14 advantage at the break.

The Knights scored on a nine-yard run at the 7:30 mark of the third period, but the never-say-die Lumberjack team came roaring back and added a 58-yard Streets-to-Hayden Lancaster touchdown pass to reclaim the lead at 22-21 after the Palmer conversion kick.

But, the stakes were to high for the Silver Knights, who would score on an eight-yard TD run with 0.49 seconds remaining in the third to retake the lead at 27-22.

Tyler Consolidated added a five-yard touchdown run and added two more points on the conversion run at the 9:13 mark of the last period. After that, they never looked back in gaining the hard-fought victory.

Streets rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns and completed 14-32 passes for 220-yards and one touchdown. However, he was intercepted four times. Palmer added 40 yards rushing and nailed a 20-yard field goal and a PAT. Liam Midcap rushed for 11 yards on three carries and hauled in a pass for 19 yards.

In addition, Lancaster caught five passes for 109 yards and a TD, while Tucker Cain grabbed three passes for 52 yards. Joey Preat hauled in five Street passes for 40-yards,

The Valley Lumberjacks will host Wetzel County rival Paden City on Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the new version of the back-yard brawl on Senior Night.
