Hawks Sink ‘Cats In Senior Nite Thriller
The Paden City Wildcats played host to the South Harrison Hawks on Friday at Berger Field, but came up short at games end with the Hawks taking the win, 14-6.
It was Paden City striking pay dirt first with a nice 64 yard touchdown run by sophomore Hayden Hizer early in the first quarter. The extra point run failed, but the ‘Cats held the lead, 6-0.
In the second quarter, South Harrison’s quarterback found a receiver 47 yards down field and connected for a Hawk touchdown, followed up by the extra point kick.
Neither team scored in the third, but South Harrison managed seven points in the fourth quarter to lengthen their lead. Though the ‘Cats gave a valiant effort in the last minutes of the game, the Hawks left Berger Field with the win, 14-6.
“We had our chances, but we just didn’t get it done,” said Wildcat head coach, Brent Croasmun. “The kids played hard, but we made some mistakes we just couldn’t make up for.”
Paden City quarterback, senior Zach Heasley completed 10 of 27 passes in the game for 194 yards and was intercepted once.
Hayden Hizer was leading Wildcat receiver, pulling down five passes for 97 yards. Luke Cooper had two catches for 24 yards; Deven Price, one catch for 13 yards; Craig Allen, one catch for 28 yards; and Brandon Cross had one catch for 32 yards.
Hizer rushed for 103 yards on six carries for Paden City and Cross carried the ball 11 times to gain 34 yards.
Defensively, Spencer Billings had 18 tackles and a quarterback sack in the game; Cross had ten tackles, one tackle for a loss; Allen had 10 tackles; Rander Amos, seven tackles; Cooper, seven tackles; Hizer, six tackles; and Heasley had one sack.
