The Magnolia golf season ended on Oct. 8 with sophomore Peyton Moore being named to the All-tournament Team at the West Virginia State Championships. Moore shot 84-81 during the two-day event held at Oglebay Park’s Jones Golf Course.
Peyton qualified for the state tournament by shooting 77 at Moundsville Country Club on Sept. 29. Juniors Derrick Blain shot an 87 and Matthew Durig hit a 92 to lead lead the team to a third-place finish at regionals. Only the top two teams – Madonna and St. Marys this year – qualify for the state championship.
On. Sept. 17, Magnolia won the Ohio Valley Gold League Championship at Oglebay’s Crispin course with the following scores: Peyton Moore, 70; Matthew Durig, 71; Derrick Blain, 83 and Shane Mason, 89 for a 313 team total.
At the OVAC tournament, also held at Crispin, the Eagles were runner-up to Linsly. Moore finished with a 75; Blain shot a 78; Durig turned in a 79; and Mason hit an 81 for a team total 319.
Magnolia’s final record for the season was 58-8. Other team members are senior Zac Lockhart; sophomores Tyler Williamson, Drew Herrick, A.J. Richmond, Cameron Archer and freshman William Nice.
It was a great season, but we should be even better next year.
