River Kicks Bishop, 17-6
Broc Cross caught a touchdown pass from Joey Flannery and Colton Wright tacked on three field goals to lead the River Pilots to a 16-6 victory over Bishop Rosecrans at Zanesville High School Oct. 3.
The Pilots scored 10 points in the opening period and tacked on a field goal in the second and third period, while the Bishops punched their only tally in the second period.
Loren Thomas paced the Pilots on the ground with 75 yards on 10 carries, while Cole Isaly grounded out 37 yards on as many totes, Flannery rushed for eight yards, while connecting on eight passes for 130 yards and a TD.
Cross hauled in two passes for 60 yards, while Wes Smith added 13 yards on two catches. Isaly snatched three passes for 49 yards, while Craig Hupp netted seven yards on one grab.
Defensively, the Pilots forced five turnovers, including interceptions by Isaly and brothers Dakota and Wes Smith. Dakota Smith made eight tackles, forced two fumbles and hijacked a Rosecrans football, while Isaly added five solo tackles and three assists to go along with an interception and fumble recovery. Wes Smith had four solo tackles, nine assists an interception.
In addition, Luke Matusik made five solo stops, seven assists and one tackle for loss of yardage, while Cross dropped eight Rosecrans ball carriers. Collin Huffman recorded seven solo tackles, six assists and forced a fumble. Mason Ladyga contributed six solo tackles and assisted on another, while Brayden Whetsell sank eight Rosecrans ball toters.
The Pilots will look to keep their winning ways Friday when they host Bridgeport at 7 p.m. at Flannery Field in the Pilots Homecoming tilt.
