Valley ‘Jacks’ Win Third Game
The third consecutive victory this season for the new-look Valley Lumberjacks was a 44-16 shellacking of Tygarts Valley Sept. 12 at Tygarts Valley.
Trey Streets recorded 159 yards passing and 115 yards on the ground for 274 yards to lead the Lumberjack offense, while Kale Lloyd mustered 10 tackles, including a quarterback sack, to power the stingy Valley defense.
Streets and Matthew Throckmorton each contributed 21 and 18-yard TD runs to open the first period, while the Valley defense held the powerful Tygarts Valley team to minus yardage.
Valley’s defensive line made a safety to open the second period. It was the ‘Jacks’ third safety of the season, with one in every contest they have played.
Facing a fourth down and 20 at the Bulldog 26 yard line, Streets connected with Tucker Cain for a touchdown to go up, 30-0.
However, Tygarts hit a 40-yard pitch-and-catch for their only score of the half. After the two point conversion, Valley led 30-8.
Peyton Palmer opened the second half on a one-yard plunge, Streets, facing another fourth and long situation at the 40 yard line, scored the Lumberjacks’ final tally with a 40-yard scamper to explode into a 37-8 advantage. Liam Midcap added a five-yard TD run to push the ‘Jacks to a 44-8 lead with one quarter to go. Palmer kicked all six extra point tries for the ‘Jacks.
Playing mostly with reserves in the fourth period, the Lumberjacks gave up a Bulldog 58-yard TD run and a two-point conversion for the final points of the night.
The Lumberjack defense yielded only 78 yards rushing on the night and 40 yards passing. If you take away Tygarts Valley’s two TD plays, the Lumberjack defense yielded only 12 yards on the night.
Streets netted 115 yards rushing and 151 yards passing accounting for 266 of the Valley’s 374 total yards. Palmer added 50 yards, while Throckmorton, Midcap and Lloyd all gained positive yardage. Cain hauled in 106 yards of the 159 yards on six snatches.
With three of Valley’s starting linemen benched with injuries before the game, the ‘Jacks will have two weeks to heal before they travel to Hannan Sept. 26 for a 7:30 p.m. start.
