Ron O’Neil Jr. defeated Jim Agar 228-213 to win the 37th Annual Ohio Valley Match Play opening qualifier. O’Neil, who won nine times last year, won $55, compliments of Yuengling Lager and J. C. Mensore Distributors, this week’s sponsors.

Jeff Gunn was the two-game high qualifier with games of 269-210 for a 579 total. O’Neil eliminated Helen Agar 278-193 in one semifinal, while Jim Agar defeated the defending Grand Finale Champion Sean Sawyers 243-165 in the other semi.

Match play will continue on Saturdays at 6 p.m. for the next two weeks before moving back to its traditional Thursdays at 9:15 p.m.

The top 24 bowlers on the Point List will qualify for the May 2015 Grand Finale, where tournament sponsors Yuengling Lager and J. C. Mensore Distributors guarantee the top prize of $1,000, based on the number of bowlers.
