Pilots Lose On Last Minute TD

Monroe Central gained 305 yards rushing and four touchdowns, but had to score a late TD and a two-point conversion to get by River 27-21 in Woodsfield Friday night.

The Seminoles raced out to a 13-0 lead, but a one-yard touchdown run by Lukas Isaly and a Colton Wright extra-point kick in the second stanza pulled the Pilots to 13-7 at the break.

In the second half, Monroe Central added another ground touchdown, while the Pilots followed with a 68-yard strike from Joey Flannery in the third period to Craig Hupp, and followed with pass to Brok Cross for a score in the fourth to grab a 21-19 advantage.

However, the ‘Noles scored their fourth rushing touchdown from 33 yards out, while adding a two-point conversion pass for the win.

Flannery passed for 272 yards on 14-30 passes. Cross caught six Flannery passes for 110 yards and a TD, while Craig Hupp netted 77-yards and a touchdown on two snatches. Luke Isaly hauled in five passes for 70 yards and while Branden Whetsell grabbed one pass for 15-yards.

Defensively, Cole Isaly helped bring down five Seminoles and brought down seven on his own, including two for loss of yardage. Luke Matusik dropped 11 ‘Noles, with four going for loss of yardage. Loren Thomas added 12 tackles, forced two fumbles and made five tackles for losses of yardage,

In addition, Hupp made six stops, with one tackle for a loss, while Whetsell hauled down seven.

The Pilots will host cross-river rival Magnolia Friday at 7:30 p.m.
