Eagle Booters Succumb To Linsly Cadets, 6-0

By Staff | Sep 11, 2014

The Linsly Cadets scored early and often in a 6-0 game shutout of Magnolia Sept 3 at New Martinsville’s Hydro Field.

The Cadet offense dazzled the first half with their pin-point passing, as they raced out to an early 4-0 lead. Linsly had 20 shots at goal in the opening half with the Eagles’ Frankie Grilli making 12 saves. The Eagle offense struggled shooting eight times, with the Linsly keeper swatting away five.

During the break, Magnolia Head Coach Mike Wolf shifted his booters into high gear, with the Eagles challenging the Linsly front line and making it difficult to get good looks at the net. Despite a early goal in the second half, the Eagle defense held the Cadets to 13 shots, with Grilli only having to make one save and allowing two to go in.

The Magnolia defense, led by Soren Shade, Michael Dantrassy, Kyle Goddard, Troy Boughner and freshman Jack Booth stood toe-to-toe with the Cadets and challenged all 13 of their shots, with Grilli only having to making one save.

“I proud of the boys,” said Wolf. “They were up against a very good, talented and experienced soccer team. Despite some early growing pains, they did pretty well.”
