Paden City Foundation 5K Run/Walk Set For June 7

Finals plans are being made for the fourth Paden City Foundation 5K Run/Walk slated for Saturday, June 7, at Centennial Park on Main Street in Paden City. The gun will sound at 9 a.m. as runners and walkers of all experience levels takes to the streets of Paden City.

Organizers are excited about the number of pre-registered entrants and are hoping for a high turnout on race day. This year’s race has a new benefactor, the Wounded Warrior Project.

The route will encompass Third Avenue from Main to Stephen streets, Stephen from Third to Second avenues north to the Paden City Elementary School turnaround and return, Main Street, Second Avenue to William E. Ford Park, the walking trail including all ballfields, turning at the boat launch parking area, and returning to Main Street, Second Avenue south to Park Street, Park to Third Avenue, and finish back at Centennial Park at the corner of Main and Third Avenue.

Residents along with race route are urged to proceed with caution and keep the streets clear from 9-10:30 a.m. for the safety of all the runners and walkers. All citizens are encouraged to use alternative routes if possible. There will be race marshals at most every intersection along the route to control traffic and drivers are asked to cooperate.

The Paden City Foundation is organizing the race that will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project and the Paden City Museum. Average participation for the past three years is 100 entrants and the group is hoping for more this year. Race organizer Rodney McWilliams is happy to announce three new sponsors for this year’s race. “Chen’s China Garden, The Appliance Center and Carpet Outlet, and the HomePlate Bristo have all joined in helping out with the race this year. WesBanco and Healthy Alliance (Columbus, Ohio) are the race’s major sponsors, along with generous contributions from Littman Enterprises, RAM Financial, Palmetto Health Services (Spartanburg, S.C.), American Legion Post 86, TME Lights Your Way, the Paden City Museum, the Cornerstone Committee, Quinet’s Court Restaurant, D&D Trophies and Tees, and the River City Runners and Walkers Club (Parkersburg, W.Va). These sponsors make it possible to have a majority of our entry fees go directly to the charities we support each year and we are very grateful for the many kinds of support they provide.”

Official race timing services will be handled by the River City Runners and Walkers Club and sponsored by RAM Financial Services. After race refreshments for the runners and walkers will include fruit and drinks provided by TME Lights Your Way. Healthy Alliance is providing all the awards which include plaques to the overall winners and medals to age division winners.

The Appliance Center and Carpet Outlet is teaming with WesBanco to provide the official race shirt. The American Legion Post 86 is providing flag-raising services and Jonathon Mast will be on hand providing the sound equipment and pre-race music. Mast will also deliver a pre-race blessing for all the runners and walkers. Special awards will be presented just prior to the start of the race with race awards as soon after the race as possible.

Registration is only $10 and early registration ends today. Race day registration will be at 8 a.m. on June 7 at Centennial Park. You may download a registration form, complete it, and bring it with you.
