Sean Sawyers defeated Sean Johnson 257-159 to win the 36th Annual Ohio Valley Match Play Championships. Sawyers earned $750, while Johnson pocketed $375 for second.
The tournament paid out in excess of $6,000 for the year. Sean Johnson was also the two-game high qualifier with games of 298 and 227 for a 525 total. Sawyers eliminated Dave Johnson 204-183 in one semifinal, while Sean Johnson eliminated Brent Conaway 252-198 in the other semi final. Conaway and Dave Johnson. both past champions, won $125 each for third.
Ron O’Neil Jr. won the Buddy Light Accounting Point List Award and $100. O’Neil also tied Jeff Gunn for winning nine weekly events. Brandon Longwell won the Arkle Costanza Award for bowling the most weekly events, 33.
Jordan Longwell won the Doris Westfall Award for finishing as the highest female on the Point List. Jim Longwell won the Chup Robinson Sportsmanship Award, while the Longwell family won the Rick Doty Achievement Award for promoting the success of the event by bowling in 97 weekly events total. Capital Beverage, Miller Lite and Buddy Light Accounting were once again the tournament major sponsors.
Plans are underway for the 37th annual event. Tournament Director Keith Craycraft thanks the Ohio Valley Bowlers and sponsors for the success of the longest running Match Play in the Ohio Valley.
