Region I, Section II Baseball Playoffs Updated

Paden City 12, Cameron 2
Paden City scored five runs in the second and fourth innings to come back from a 2-0 deficit to win 12-2 over the Cameron Dragons in the double-elimination Region I, Section II contest at Mullett Field in New Martinsville May 20.
The ‘Cats went down in order in the bottom half of the first, but clawed their way back, scoring five runs in the home-half of the second. Zach Heasley and Michael Wilcox had back-to-back singles to open the frame. Wildcat hurler Isaac Hall then hit a rope down the right field line for a stand-up triple, knocking in two runs to even the count at 2-2.
However, Paden City wasn’t finished. First-year starter Kennedy Cain drilled one down the left field line that scored Hall and freshman Hayden Hizer cracked a double to score the fleet-footed Cain all the way from first to give the Wildcats a 5-2 advantage.
Brent Croasmun’s club pushed across another run in the third and plated five more in the fourth. After a hit batsmen, an error, a walk and another Dragon miscue that scored a run, Luke Cooper lifted a fastball over the left field fence for a grand-slam home run to give Paden City an 11-2 advantage heading into the fifth frame.

After sitting down the Dragons in the top half of the fifth, it didn’t take the Wildcats long to finish their business and send them on to face Magnolia Tuesday.
Andrew Dennis singled and pinch runner Deven Price stole second and scored on a Cain blooper to right for the mercy-rule walk-off RBI single.
Hall was masterful from the mound. After giving up three seeing-eye singles in the opening stanza, he yielded only one more the rest of the way. He sat down nine Dragon batters and walked two to get the win from the rubber.
From the dish, Hall tripled and brought home two runs, while Cooper tacked on a grand-slam home run. Heasley singled and doubled, while Cain plated a pair of runs on two singles. Hizer plated two on a double, while Wilcox and Dennis each capped off the 10-hit Wildcat performance at the plate with a single. Price stole three bases and scored the game-winning run.
Paden City 9, Cameron 6

Hayden Hizer smacked a bases-loaded clearing double in the sixth inning to propel the Paden City Wildcats to a 9-6 win in the opening round of the Region I, Section II game held at George Mullett Field in New Martinsville on Friday May 16.
The Dragons scored two runs in the first and the game stayed the same until the bottom of the fourth, when the ‘Cats scored two runs to knot the contest at two.
In the fifth inning, both teams scored three runs. However, in the sixth frame, Hizer cleared the bases with a bases-loaded double, to spring past Cameron 9-5. The Dragons would score one more in the seventh, but it wasn’t quite enough to overtake Paden City.
Hizer singled, doubled and knocked in four runs to pace the Wildcat offense, while Zach Heasley added an RBI single. Hizer picked up the win in relief, while Luke Cooper started, striking out eight and walking five.
Magnolia 10, Paden City 2

The Magnolia Blue Eagles scored 10 runs in the first three innings and held on to defeat the Paden City Wildcats 10-2 in the second game of the Region I, Section II play at New Martinsville May 17.
In the home half of the first inning, Chase Miller got things started for the Eagles with a single. Teammates Grant Cain and Willhoite reached on errors with Miller scoring on a Willhoite fielding error. Anderson then smacked a double to score Cain, while Brandon Mason batted in Chase West, who was running for Willhoite, with a sacrifice fly. Jake Starkey then singled home Anderson to give the Big Blue a 4-0 lead after one inning of play.
The ‘Cats’ Zach Heasley doubled to start the second and later scored on an Isaac Hall double. However, Willhoite induced a ground out and finished the frame with a strike out.
In the home half of the second inning, Miller reached on an error with one out for the Eagles. After a Cain ground out, Willhoite reached on an error and Anderson then singled home Miller to give the Eagles a 5-0 lead after two innings of play.
In the home half of the third, the Eagles batted around their whole order, highlighted by a Miller grand slam to give the Eagles a 10-1 advantage after three.

Both teams went scoreless until the seventh when Paden City started things of with a single. Levi Meadows reached on a fielder’s choice and later scored on a Heasley double. Willhoite struck out the last Paden City batter to end the game.
Miller paced the Blue Eagle lumber with a single. a grand slam home run and four RBIs, while reaching base on an error and a walk. Anderson doubled and singled with two RBIs, while Mason and Starkey both singled twice. Mason added two RBIs and Starkey brought home one.
Willhoite pitched a complete game, striking out eight and walking one, to get the win from the hill for the Blue Eagles. Kyle Postlewait took the loss for the ‘Cats. He struck out one and walked two, while Meadows pitched the final three innings, walking two.
Heasley doubled twice and had an RBI to pace the Wildcats, while Hall singled, doubled and knocked in a run. In addition, Cooper singled twice.
