Blue Eagles On A Roll; Win Four

Magnolia 12, RCB 7

Tyler Anderson doubled and belted his first career home run, while driving in four runs to lead Magnolia to a 12-7 victory over Robert C. Byrd May 8 at George Mullets Field.

REB scored three runs in the top of the first. However, the Eagles scored four runs after two outs. Willhoite and Anderson each walked and Mason then doubled them in. After another pair of walks, Chase West reached on an error that scored two more to give the hosts a 3-4 advantage.

REB took the lead with two more runs in the second, but the Eagles’ Willhoite lifted one over the Magnolia green house and onto the track field for a solo home run to knot things at five. The Eagles scored one more in the third and three in both the fourth and fifth innings to break open a close game.

Besides Anderson’s break-out performance and Willhoite’s single and towering home run, the Eagles’ Brandon Mason singled and doubled, while Drew Keller, Andrew Smith, Chase West and Chase Miller each added RBI singles. Jake Starkey singled, while Grant Cain walked twice and scored twice.

Devon Kelly started and worked three innings, striking out two and walking two. Sophomore Garrett Price picked up his first varsity game on the mound with two strike outs and a walk. Miller worked the final two innings to get the save.

Magnolia 7, Wheeling Central 3

Derrick Blain picked up his first high school victory from the mound as he held the Wheeling Maroon Knights to three-hits in 7-3 win at the I-470 ball fields May 6. He struck out four in a complete game.

With the score knotted at three heading into the seventh inning, Magnolia pushed across four runs and Blain held on to get the ‘W’.

Drew Keller swung the big stick for the Eagles on this night. He singled twice, doubled and brought home two runs, while Jake Starkey and Nick Priem each had a pair of RBI singles. Anderson singled, doubled and knocked in a pair, while Chase Miller plated two runs with a double.

Magnolia 8, John Marshall 3

Jake Starkey went the distance, striking out six, while Keller doubled in his two hits and plated a pair to lead the Magnolia Blue Eagles to a 8-3 victory over the John Marshall Monarchs May 5 in New Martinsville.

Grant Cain, Tyler Anderson and Brandon Mason each had multi-hits, while Eric Smith added an RBI single and Starkey hit a single.

Magnolia 4, Paden City 3

Blue Eagle sophomore Derrick Blain drove home the winning run with a bases-loaded walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to beat Paden City 4-3 May 7 at Mullets Field in New Martinsville.

Grant Cain singled to open the home-half of the seventh inning for the Eagles. Paden City intentionally walked Zach Willhoite and Anderson walked to load the bases. Blain then smacked his walk-off single to score Cain.

Miller, Cain, Keller and Nick Priem each singled, while Mason and Blain each had two hits to lead the Eagles.

For Paden City, Luke Cooper, Zach Heasley and Kennedy Cain singled, while Devin Price doubled in a pair of teammates. Michael Wilcox added an RBI.

Willhoite got the complete game victory. He struck out 11, while Kyle Postlewait started and struck out one. Paden City’s Isaac Hall took the loss in relief.
