East Fairmont 16,

Magnolia 10

East Fairmont tallied 16 runs in the fourth inning on six hits, seven walks, and six Blue Eagle errors to lift East Fairmont to a 16-10 victory at George Mullett Stadium April 23.

Magnolia held the Bees scoreless in the first two frames, while scoring six of their own. However, the Eagles’ starting hurler, Chase Miller, along with relievers Derrick Blain and Devon Kelly couldn’t find the strike zone. They issued seven free passes and gave up six hits, while the defense’s four miscues in the stanza cost them dearly.

However, the Eagles were playing without seniors Zach Willhoite and Grant Cain, who were in Morgantown giving a presentation in the engineering field for a grade.

But, the never-say-die Eagles scored two more runs in the fourth and single runs in the last two frames, while out-hitting the Bees 17-12 in the game.

Five different Blue Eagles had multi-hits, with senior Jake Starkey leading the way with a double and three singles and plating three teammates. Miller and Blain each added three singles and brought home a run, while Tyler Anderson nailed two doubles and plated one. Drew Keller knocked in two runs on a pair of singles.

The East Fairmont Bees were coached by former Blue Eagle standout Joe Price.

Oak Glen 7, Magnolia 6

Oak Glen scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to stop a gallant Magnolia comeback, and went on to win 7-6 April 24 in New Cumberland.

The Blue Eagles were down 5-0 heading into the six inning, but would scratch out three runs in each of the last two at bats to knot the game at six, before the Golden Bears tacked on the winning run in the bottom half.

Jake Starkey once again paced the Big Blue with three hits, while Tyler Anderson and Derrick Blain each belted a pair of singles. Zach Willhoite took the loss from the hill. He struck out eight and walked two. Magnolia yielded four errors.

Wheeling Central 12,

Paden City 2

Paden City scored two runs to open the game with the Maroon Knights April 23 in Wheeling, but the Knights would put up a seven spot up in the home half cruise 12-2 victory.

Zach Heasley had an RBI triple for the Wildcats, while Luke Cooper added an RBI single. Isaac Hall took the loss from the mound. He struck out one and walked one, while Levi Meadows took over in the third and struck out three and walked two.

Bishop Donahue 6,

Paden City 0

Bishop Donahue pitcher Hunter Kashke sat down 12 Paden City batters on strikes and limited the Wildcats to a pair of singles, en route to a 6-0 shutout April 26 in the OVAC Class-A semifinal at JB Chambers I-470 Complex in Wheeling.

The ‘Cats’ Kyle Postlewait also pitched well, striking out seven in taking the loss from the hill. Hayden Hizer and Levi Meadows had the only base hits for Paden City.

Taylor Bates landed a pair of singles, drove in a run and swiped a base, but it wasn’t enough for the Valley Lumberjacks to get past Frontier 12-3 in baseball action last week.

The Lumberjacks were down only 4-0 heading into the final frame, but errors hampered the ‘Jacks and the Cougars took advantage with eight runs.

However, the ‘Jacks would not go down quietly and scored three runs in the bottom half of the seventh. Peyton Palmer started the rally with a leadoff single. After a Hayden Lancaster walk and a Dusty Lowe single, Caleb Palmer brought home a pair with a single and Bates brought in the last tally with another base hit.

Hurler Pete Shaw was on the wrong side of the scoreboard and took the loss from the hill.

Valley 10, Cameron 4

Valley Lumberjack senior hurler Brandon Stoneking doubled and belted a towering three-run home run over the right-centerfield fence, while striking out 12 Cameron Dragon batters to help Valley win 10-4 April 24 in Pine Grove.

Colby Bucher added a double among his three singles and stole two bases, while Pete Shaw and Dusty Lowe each singled, doubled, and knocked in a run. In addition, Peyton Palmer and Taylor Bates each had a base hit.

“It’s about time,” said first-year Head Coach Jeremy Bucher. “The guys have been pounding the ball, but right at a player. Tonight we got some hits that just fell in and some good starting pitching. I’m tickled for the boys, they have been playing hard all season with only one and sometimes two subs and it was nice that we could give a couple guys the day off and get healed.”
