Magnolia Splits Two

By Staff | Apr 9, 2014

Magnolia 12, River 6

The River Pilots scored six runs in the top of the first, but Magnolia’s Zach Willhoite came in to put out the fire from the mound and the Eagle bats came alive to double up the Pilots 12-6 on April 1 in New Martinsville.

Willhoite struck out 11 and walked two after taking over the pitching duties late in the first. Drew Keller plated two runs on a double and two singles to pace Magnolia attack.

In addition, Chase Miller brought home two teammates with a single, while Grant Cain blasted a double that plated one. Jake Starkey also blasted a double for the Blue Eagles.

No stats for the Pilots were available.

Madonna 6, Magnolia 2

Madonna drilled a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to carry the undefeated (7-0) Blue Dons to a 6-2 victory over the Magnolia Blue Eagles April 5 at George Mullett Field in New Martinsville.

Grant Cain paced the Blue Eagles with a double, while Nick Priem had two hits and Derek Blain had an RBI single.

Weather permitting, the Blue Eagles will travel to Clarksburg tonight against Robert C. Byrd and then host the Cameron Dragons Thursday. Both games get underway at 5:30 p.m.
