Lady Lumberjills Get First Win Of Season
Down three runs heading into the seventh inning, the Valley ‘Jills would knot the game up and send it to extra innings April first at Trinity Morgantown, then come back 14-9 winners.
The ‘Jills sent 13 batters to the plate, who erupted for six runs on four hits and four stolen bases to gain the nod.
Cassidy West opened the eighth with a single and scampered to second on a Bre Bucher single. After a double steal, the ‘Jills got two quick outs and would then send nine consecutive batters to the plate to score six runs and break the game wide open.
Bucher got the win from the hill in her first appearance of the season. She struck out a dozen and walked five. She helped herself out at the dish as well, knocking in three runs on a double and two singles. Alexis Campbell also added three hits and scored three times, while driving in a pair of teammates.
In addition, West, Arizona Cunningham, Gracie Hayes, Angela Sharpe each pounded out singles for the Valley Lumberjills.
St. John-Valley ‘Jills
Bellaire St. John tossed a no-hitter in game one, and a one-hitter in game two, to prevail over the Valley Lumberjills in a 12-0 shutout and 13-1, respectively, April 5 at Wheeling’s I-470 Complex.
The Lumberjills’ sophomore Grace Berry had the only hit for Valley.
