Pilots Win Opener

The River Pilots opened the 2014 campaign in grand fashion March 30, winning a double header against Linsly 8-2 and 13-3 in Sardis.

The Lady Pilots’ Gabby Goudy struck out 12 and walked two in seven innings of work, while Rosie Romick, Monica Curtis and Emelie Heater each singled twice and Madi Taylor added a double to power the Pilots in game one.

In the nitecap, Curtis was on the hill for the Lady Pilots, struck out four and didn’t walk a batter to pick up the win from the plate, while Goudy was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. She also plated a pair to lead River to a 13-3 mercy-rule shorten game.

Haylee Bowers followed with a single and a pair of doubles and knocked in a pair of teammates. In addition, Heater, Taylor and Romick each added two hits, while knocking in runs.

The Lady Pilots will visit Monroe Central Thursday at 5 p.m. and will host Fort Frye in a double-header Saturday at 11 a.m.
