‘Jacks’ Boys Track Team Ready Rumble
After winning the Mason-Dixon Conference title and finishing runner-up in the OVAC Class-2A a season ago, the Valley Lumberjacks Boys’ Track Team looks like it has what it takes to continue on that path and maybe challenge for those title once more this season.
However, the loss of Class-A state champion Spencer Mason in the shot, may dampen their quest a bit. But, after running the halls in bad weather and on the sidewalks in good weather, this bunch of kids has what it takes get a ton done.
In the sprinting events, the Lumberjacks have Kale Lloyd, Matthew Throckmorton, Trey Streets, Jerry Greathouse, Tucker Cain, Liam Midcap, Joey Goontz and Jeff Brown, while Cain, Streets, Brown, Goontz, Lathe Ueltschy, Cole McGee, Jack Wells and Joey Preat will try their hands in the 400 meter run.
In the relay events, there will be a combination of any four of these guys competing, while Goontz, Ueltschy and Nathan Arnolds will take care of the long distance events.
Valley’s hurdle competitors will include Wells, Preat, Ueltschy, Streets, Wesley Shuman and Trey Smith, who also will enter the shuttle relay.
In the field events, watch out for Wells, Preat, Cain, Lloyd, Wesley Dulaney, Tyler Williams, Kody Debolt and Shane Hendershot to give it a heave in the shot and discus. Meanwhile, Wells, Preat, Cole McGee and Jerry Greathouse will compete in the high jump.
Additionally, Streets and Matthew Throckmorton will do their thing in the long jump, while Smith, Midcap, Jerry Greathouse and Wesley Shuman will try their hands in the pole vault.
“The boys have been working hard to improve on their season last year,” said Valley Lumberjack Head Boys’ Track Coach Leslie Lively. “With a young group, we are trying to keep them focused on the ultimate goal of not just making it to Charleston, but being able to compete and make a name for themselves and the team. We just need to channel the energy that they have into the events that we believe that can be successful in during the season.”
