Pilots End Season At Sectionals
The River Pilot boys basketball season came to a close Feb. 25, the Caldwell Redskins used a 13-5 run in the opening period and held off the Pilots to claim a 63-44 victory in the Ohio Division IV boys’ sectional opener at Union Local High School Feb. 25.
The Pilots had trouble putting the ball in the hoop, while the Redskins shot more than 60 percent from the floor. They also connected on 17-21 free throws, for 81 percent, that River just couldn’t match.
“WE missed 14 shots within four feet from the basket,” noted River Head Basketball Coach Mark Romick. “You cannot win basketball games shooting like that. That’s been our nemesis all season. At this part of the season, you can’t blame it on youth/ It’s just the inability to score.
“We have got to get out this summer and work our butts off on shooting the ball. It’s as simple as that.”
The Pilots Ryan Indemuhle led all River scorers with 19 points, while Cole Isaly dropped 10 markers, including a trio of baskets from beyond the arc. Jarrett Armann chipped in six points, while Parker Caretti finished with four points that included a threeball. Eric Dierkes ended his senior season with only three points, while Brandon Smith sank a deuce.
