Linsly 50, Lady Eagles 38
After losing its first game of the season, the Linsly School has put together 18 straight wins, with the later one a 50-38 conquest of Magnolia in the OVAC Class-3A semifinals Feb. 6 inside Stifel Fieldhouse in Wheeling.
With a trip to the finals at stake, the Lady Cadets met up with Blue Eagle cagers who wanted to unseat the number-one ranked team. The Eagles stayed within reach for most of three quarters, but ran out of gas. Linsly put its well-oiled machine in high gear with a stifling defense that led to easy baskets and ended a gallant Magnolia attempt for an upset.
Mallory Chapman scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Lady Eagles, while Grace Berisford netted eight points.
Linsly’s Jazzie Orth and Vivian Allison each recorded a Baker’s Dozen, while J.J. Jackson contributed 12 markers.
W.Central 40, MHS 39
Lady Eagle Grace Berisford scored 17 points, including a trio of baskets from beyond the arc, but it wasn’t enough to get past Wheeling Central, who prevailed 40-39 Feb. 10 at Wheeling High School.
The Lady Eagles fell behind 10-8 after one period of play, but fought back to take the lead at the break, 26-21, and would hold a two point-lead heading into the final stanza.
Mallory Chapman chipped in with 16 markers, while Kierra Standiford tacked on three points. Katie Blatt contributed a deuce, but hauled in a team-high seven rebounds and swatted away two Maroon Knight shots. Cierra Fowler ended all the Magnolia scoring with a charity toss.

Alisha Carter sank a pair of three pointers to pace the ‘Jills in the loss to the Lady Irish, while Erin Brown tallied 13 in the game with Van. Madison Arnolds scored a total of 10 points in both games, while Sarah Bassett and Karissa Headley recorded eight and seven points, respectively, in both contests. Katelyn Brown knocked in a freebie.

Lady Hornets 32
Paden City senior Myah Charkawi set a new school single-season scoring record Feb. 12 with a 38-point performance that helped the Lady ‘Cats to a 59-32 victory over the visiting Hundred Lady Hornets.
Charkawi netted a pair of threeballs and went 19-29 at the foul line in breaking the record set by her mother, the former Cathy Mikes, in 1987.
The Green and White broke open broke open a close game with a 20-9 run right before the break and went on to grab the win.
Cydney Blatt contributed six markers while Kayla Barkers and Hannah Stanley each netting four points. In addition, Katie Shreves netted a deuce and a free throw, while Taylor Cosper and Kayla Hizer each recorded a bucket.
For the Lady Hornets, Lindsay Jones returned to the lineup from a long absence caused by a knee injury, pacing Hundred with seven points. Teammate Paige Shriver followed with seven tallies that included a basket from beyond the arc. Josie Phillips and Nikki Cunningham each tacked on six markers, while Madeline Goff sank a threeball and Mady Wheeler contributed a deuce.
River 60, Shenandoah 56
The Pilots’ Jensen Caretti tallied the first triple double of the season en route to a thrilling come-from-behind 60-56 double-overtime victory over the Shenandoah Zeps Feb. 17 in the Division IV Sectional tournament at Union Local High School.
After a 10-10 first quarter score, the Lady Pilots had fallen behind by 10 at the break, but recovered nicely with a 15-6 third period run to close the gap to 32-31 heading into the fourth stanza. Haylee Bowers would knot the game at 46 with her second threeball of the night to send the game into overtime.
With the Lady Pilots on top 50-47 late in the first overtime session, Shenandoah would score back-to-back goals to forge ahead by one with 4.2 seconds left and no timeouts available for the River Pilot squad. Bowers would then quickly inbound the ball to point guard Landyn Ramsay, who was fouled on the drive and went to the line with no time on the clock.
With no one on the line and hundreds of fans watching her, Ramsay misfired on her first attempt, but calmly swished the second freebie to send the contest into a second overtime session.
Ramsay would then give her 15-7 Lady Pilots the lead for good late in the second extra stanza. Caretti would convert three freethrows down the stretch to seal the victory for River.
Caretti led all-scorers with 30 points, 15 rebounds, 10 steals, while swatting away five Zep shots and handing out three assists to pace the Pilot attack.
Ramsay netted all her 11 points in the second half and OT sessions, while Bowers contributed 10 points that included a pair of threeballs. She also hauled in a half dozen rebounds.
In addition, Abby Caldwell netted three markers, while Devyn Potts and MacKenzie Marshall added a deuce and charity toss, respectively.
With the win, the Lady Pilots will take on OVAC Class-1A Champion Conotton Valley, who beat Strasburg 56-24, on Thursday, Feb. 20 at Union Local High School at 8 p.m.
