‘Cats To Play For H.I.T. Division II?Title
The Wildcats’ Kennedy Cain swished a basket from deep behind the arc for his 1,000 career points to lead Paden City to a 81-37 victory over Montcalm on Jan. 30 that helped punch Paden City’s ticket to the Hometown Invitational Tournament finale Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. in Summersville.
The Wildcats raced out to a commanding 23-5 advantage after eight minutes of play and never looked back in gaining the nod.
Cain paced the Wildcats with 32 points that included four bonus bombs, while hauling in a game-high eight rebounds. Fellow classmate Zach Heasley netted 14 markers, including a pair of triples. He also added seven steals and dished out four assists in a nice all-around performance.
In addition, Deven Price came off the bench to score 10 points, while Luke Cooper contributed nine points, including one basket from downtown. Aaron Heasley came off the bench to tack on eight markers, including a bonus bomb, while Hayden Hizer and Craig Allen each tallied four points. Hizer added six rebounds and dished out four assists.
Dustin Williams paced the Generals with 16 markers.
Paden City out scored their hosts Beallsville in the fourth period, but it wasn’t quite enough to get past the Blue Devils, 58-50 in boys’ basketball action Jan. 30.
Cain posted 23 points and pulled down seven rebounds, while fellow classmate Heasley netted 16 markers, that included four bonus bombs. Allen followed with five markers, while Hizer and Cooper each netted three points.
In addition Price contributed four steals and made four assists, while Hizer dished off five assists, made two steals and cleaned the glass with six boards.
Bishop Donahue 56,
Lady ‘Cats 40
Bishop Donahue doubled up the Lady Wildcats of Paden City 16-8 in the first period and finished off the ‘Cats with a 14-5 run in the fourth period to gain a hard-fought 56-40 victory in a make-up game Jan. 29 in McMechen.
Myah Charkawi led all scorers with 21 points for Paden City, while grabbing a team-high five boards. Teammate Hannah Stanley posted nine markers, while Taylor Cosper and Kayla Barker each netted three points.
In addition, Cydney Blatt was held to a deuce, while Katie Shreves swished a jumper.
Bishop Donahue 82,
Paden City 55
Bishop Donahue scored 44 first-half points and never looked back in winning the season series 82-55 in boys’ basketball action Jan. 29 in McMechen.
Paden City was forced into nine of their team’s 19 turnovers in the first quarter that led to many Bishop Donahue transition points from which the Green and White could never quite recover.
Kennedy Cain paced the Wildcats with 15 markers, while teammate Zach Heasley netted 14 points, including three buckets from beyond the arc. Heasley also made a team-high five steals. Luke Cooper dropped in 11 points, while Craig Allen tallied nine markers and had a team-high seven boards.
Deven Price came off the bench to net four points, while Hayden Hizer was held to a season-low two points, but dished out a game-high 10 assists and made three steals.
