Lady Hornets Drop Four

Meadow Bridge 46,

Hundred 31

Nine Lady Hornets scored, but it wasn’t quite enough as Hundred fell, 46-31, to Meadow Bridge in the opener of the WV Hometown Invitational Tournament in Meadow Bridge High School Jan. 18.

Meadow Bridge took an early 7-3 lead after one period of play and put it in high gear in the second period, outscoring the Lady Hornets 19-6. Meadow Bridge doubled up the Hornets 14-7 in the third, but Hundred would outscore the hosts 15-6 in the fourth. But it was a little too late.

Erin Topp was the leading scorer for Hundred with eight markers, while Paige Shriver tallied five points and made five steals. Lindsay Jones and Valerie Soles shared eight points and 21 rebounds, while Emily Rine finished with three points. Ashley Miller, Sara Crichfield and Josie Phillips each contributed a deuce, while Nikki Cunningham swished a free throw.

Clay-Battelle 50,

Hundred 35

Jones had a double-double, 13 points and 12 rebounds, but it fell to naught as the Lady Hornets lost 50-35 to Clay-Battelle Jan. 6 in Blacksville.

Rine and Phillips each tacked on seven markers, while Soles followed with five points and pulled down nine boards. Shriver tallied the final three points and made 10 steals.

Jones went out with a knee injury and never returned.

Notre Dame 70,

Hundred 40

Notre Dame used a 33-6 run in the first quarter and held on for a 70-40 victory over Hundred Jan. 14 in Clarksburg.

Shriver paced the Hornets with 13 points and grabbed seven boards, while Rine followed with eight points. In addition, Topp and Phillips each netted six markers, while Mady Wheeler netted three points. Crichfield scored a deuce, while Miller and Meliah Umstead each banked in a charity toss.

Beallsville 62,

Hundred 38

The Lady Hornets fell behind 16-4 in the opening period and couldn’t recover, losing 62-38 to the Lady Blue Devils Jan. 16 in Beallsville.

Rine and Phillips paced the Hundred squad with 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Cunningham ripped the cords for eight points and grabbed eight rebounds. Soles followed with five markers, while Miller tallied three points and hauled in 10 boards. Topp swished a charity toss, while Soles pulled down eight boards and made four steals.
