Lady Eagles Fall In Quarterfinals

Wirt County ousted Magnolia in the first round of the WVSSAC Class-A quarterfinals by the scores of 25-15, 25-19, and 25-17, before blowing away Greater Beckley Christian in the semifinals and securing a date with Tyler Consolidated in the championship.

Senior standout Mallory Chapman recorded a triple-double — 13 points, 18 digs, and 10 kills — while making three blocks and recording three service aces to lead the Lady Eagles. Freshman setter Bailey Estep distributed 18 assists, while scoring six points and making three blocks and three digs.

In addition, senior libero Ashley Moore concluded her senior season scoring nine points, including a pair each of service aces and digs, while freshman Taylor Ludewig chipped in with eight points and four digs. Classmate Kelsi Chapman tallied seven markers, including a trio of service aces, and five digs, while sophomore Grace Berisford contributed five points and four digs.

Freshman Evan Estep made two kills, blocked one shot, and recorded a dig, while Cierra Fowler belted six kills and made four blocks and one dig.

The Lady Eagles ended the season with a respectable 26-10 record and won their second straight Region I, Section I title and placed fourth in the OVAC Class-AAA tournament.

Mallory Chapman earned a spot on the state volleyball all-tournament team.
