Lady Pilots Fall In District Semifinal; Caretti, Turner, Others Win At OVAC
The River Pilots dream season came to an abrupt halt in the Ohio IV District Semi-finals Oct. 22, when they fell to a powerful Tuscarawas Central Catholic team in straight sets, 25-17, 25-14 and 25-17.
Amanda Bennett tallied a team-high 15 points, while Jensen Caretti and Monica Curtis each netted nine points and Mackenzie Marshall made seven points.
Caretti and Marshall each added 13 digs, while Mackenzie Wade made 10 and Curtis seven digs. Caretti blasted five kills, while Curtis made five assists. The Lady Pilots will lose their only senior in Mikayla Cieszeski to graduation in a year where they won their first ever OVAC Class-AA Volleyball title and finished the season with a very good 16-9 record.
Several area volleyball players were given post-season recognition in the OVAC, with Lady Pilot Jensen Caretti being named Class-2A player of the year and her coach, Jim Turner, being named the Class-2A coach of the year.
Caretti also was named to the all-conference team, along with teammates Monica Curtis and Mackenzie Marshall, both juniors.
Magnolia seniors Mallory Chapman and Ashley Moore were named to the all-OVAC team from Class-3A, as were Tyler Consolidated seniors Sydney Reed and Meghan Carpenter.
In Class-1A, it was sophomore Taylor Cosper and senior teammate Myah Charkawi who got the all-OVAC honors, along with Lumberjill sophomore Erin Brown and Hundred’s Paige Shriver, a junior.
