Hornets Beat ‘Jills; Lose To Trinity

The Lady Hornets defeated the Valley Lumberjills in the best of three, 22-25, 25-21 and 25-21 during a tri match with Trinity Oct. 10 at Valley High School.
Both schools lost to Trinity in straight sets, while the match between county rivals was close in all three sets. The Lumberjills defeated the Lady Hornets 25-22 in the opener, while the Hornets returned the favor in the next two matches, 25-21 and 25-22, to gain the nod.
Meliah Umstead and Josie Phillips each recorded 10 points to pace the Hornets, while Emily Rine and Brittany Tustin both tallied five markers. In addition, Paige Shriver and Madeline Goff each tacked on three points.
For Valley, Grace Hayes netted nine points, that included a pair of services aces to pace the home team, while Rachel Baker provided eight points, two blocks, two kills and made four dinks. Erin Brown followed with five points and drilled two kills and blocked two shots at the net, while making six digs and contributing four dinks.
In addition, Bailed Underwood tallied four points, one service ace, one kill and made four digs. Sammi Roberts scored two points, while Maggie Hornbeck, Cassidy Price and Whitney Haught each tallied a point.
