Lumberjacks Chop Down Irish In Shutout

By Staff | Oct 16, 2013

The Valley Lumberjacks evened their season record to 3-3 after shutting out the Bellaire St. John 26-0 on Fighting Irish Saturday, Oct. 12, in Bellaire.

Late in the first period, the ‘Jacks capped off a five-play, 90-yard drive when Peyton Palmer ran it in and then added his own PAT to give Valley a 7-0 lead.

VHS would turn one of their four Irish interceptions into points when Kale Lloyd snatched a St. John aerial to give them good field possession at the St. John 30 yard line. The ‘Jacks’ Trey Streets would then take a Triston Kocher pitch and outrace the Irish defense for the score to grab a 13-0 advantage.

Before the break, Kocher found the endzone on a quarterback keeper to push the Valley advantage to 20-0.

Neither team scored following halftime until Streets outraced the St. John defense for a 52-yard TD late in the fourth to close out the much deserved 26-0 victory over the winless St. John.

Streets paced the ‘Jacks with 147 yards on 11 carries, while Palmer added 89 yards on 12 totes. Lloyd tacked on 30 more yards to give the Lumberjacks 266 yards rushing on the afternoon. The Lumberjack defense held the Irish to 50 yards rushing on 30 carries, while Valley completed four passes on seven attempts.

Kocher completed two for 38 yards and Streets completed the other two for 25 yards. Hayden Lancaster hauled in two passes for 38 yards, while Chase West grabbed two for 25 yards.

The Lumberjacks moved the chains 13 times, while St. John only nine times. Valley was guilty of seven infractions for 50 lost yards, while the hosts had their hands slapped five times for 35 yards.

The Lumberjacks will entertain the Frontier Cougars this Friday on homecoming night at Tom West Field at 7:30 p.m. with the crowning of the homecoming queen at around 7 p.m.
