Brill Leads Blue Eagles To Homecoming Victory

By Staff | Oct 16, 2013

The Eagles’ Jacob Brill ran for 115 yards and threw for 141 yards and four touchdowns to lead Magnolia to a 39-6 victory over the Weir Red Riders Oct. 11 at Alumni Field on Homecoming night.

The top receiver in the OVAC, Eric Smith, hauled in a Brill 17-yard strike to open the scoring for the Blue Eagles. But the Oscar Celedon conversion kick was off its mark and Magnolia would go on top 6-0.

The Riders answered on their next drive with a 16-yard TD pass, and the Eagles defense batted away the kick to keep the game at six.

Smith added a 30-yard scoring strike from Brill in the second period, with Brill sneaking it in for the two-point conversion. And, after holding the Riders in check, Brill connected with Kyle Ritz for a seven-yard touchdown pass to put the hosts up 20-0. Celedon split the uprights for a 20-yard field goal right before the half to make the score 23-6.

After Lauren Cline was crowned Magnolia’s Homecoming Queen, Drew Keller ripped off a 62-yard scamper, and would get the call once more from four yards out for the score in the third period.

The Blue Eagles scored on a Brill-to-Smith 18 yarder in the fourth and would tack on a safety with four minutes and change left in regulation for the final points of the game.

The Blue Eagle offense rolled up 432 total yards of offense, with 308 yards coming on the ground. Keller rushed for a team-high 154 yards and a score, while Brill tacked on 115 yards. In addition, Yale Wetzel, Tyler Anderson, and Chase Street combined for more than 30 yards.

Brill connected on 12-16 passes for 141 yards and four touchdowns. Smith grabbed seven passes for 114 yards and three scores, while Ritz plucked two for 13 yards and a score. Keller finished off a productive game with three grabs for 24 yards.

Magnolia will take on state-ranked Blue Devils Friday in St. Marys with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
