West Virginia Upends Ohio In OVAC?All-Star Baseball Classic
West Virginia rallied for a 6-5 win over Ohio in the 2013 OVAC-George Kovalik All-Star baseball game at Vaccaro Field in Steubenville.
Ohio had a chance to extend a 5-4 lead with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, but Magnolia’s Chandler Sapp got an inning-ending strikeout to end the threat.
The West Virginia bats came alive in the bottom of the eighth. Oak Glen’s Trey Smith started things out with a single. Wheeling Park’s Trevor Stewart followed with an RBI triple to pull West Virginia even at 5-5. Bishop Donahue’s Joe Myers then proceeded to give his team the lead with a base hit to centerfield, scoring Stewart.
John Marshall’s Jeremiah Fromhart kept Ohio from scoring in the top of the ninth. A strikeout ended the contest, giving West Virginia the all-star win. Fromhart pitched the final two innings to pick up the victory.
Besides Sapp, the Eagles had Kyle Elliott and Tanner Hanna on the West Virginia roster, along with Head Coach Dave Cisar and Paden City Head Coach Brent Croasmun.
