Relay Softball On Tap
The 2013 Wetzel County Relay For Life one-pitch, Texas Shootout, slow-pitch softball tournament gets underway this weekend at Bruce Park in New Martinsville starting at 5 p.m. Friday with the Magnolia Blue Eagle Cheerleaders & Co. taking on the Cancer Crushers, while your Wetzel Chronicle Zebra’s will face Bridgeport Tool at 7 p.m. The finale will pit the Pain Train against the Thump’em Gizzards at 9 p.m.
There will be games played at both Bruce Park on all three days, while only a handful of games will be at Hydro Field on Saturday. The semifinals and the championship game will be played at Bruce Park starting at 1 p.m.
The highlight of the tournament will be with both the Magnolia Cheerleaders & Co. and the Cancer Crushers play WTRF Channel 7 friends on Saturday for two games starting at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively. Meanwhile, the Solid Waste Gang will try to trash the Chronicle at 6 p.m and the Pain Train will take on Bridgeport Tool in the finale at 9 p.m.
With loads of teams bowing out of the tournament at the last moment and more teams added on, a final schedule will be posted on our Wetzel Chronicle website as soon as it’s complete.
Friday, June 14 at Bruce Park: 5 p.m. Magnolia Cheerleaders & Co vs Cancer Crushers; 7 p.m.- Wetzel Chronicle vs Bridgeport Tool; and 9 p.m. Pain Train vs Thump-en Gizzards.
Sat, June 15 at Bruce Park: 10 a.m. Wetzel County Hospital Hope vs Prodigy Wellness; noon- Pain Train vs Wetzel Chronicle; 2 p.m. Magnolia Cheerleaders vs Channel 7; Cancer Crushers vs Channel 7; 6 p.m. Wetzel Chronicle vs Solid Waste; and 8 p.m. Pain Train vs Bridgeport Tool.
Sat, June 15 at Hydro Field: 4 p.m. Thump-en Gizzards vs Prodigy Wellness; 6 p.m. Thump-en Gizzards vs WCH Hope; and 8 p.m. Cancer Crushers vs Prodigy Wellness.
The top four teams with the most wins advance to Sunday at Bruce Park starting at 1 p.m. If there are more than 4 with the same number of wins they too will advance. TBA on Saturday at 10 p.m.
