Valley knotted the game at six when Taylor Bates reached on a Tyler Consolidated error and scampered home on an RBI base hit by Hayes.

With one out in the fourth, Stoneking got a strikeout, but the ball skipped by the Valley catcher, Tristen Kocher. Kocher took a shot at trying to get the Knight base runner out at second. However, the slippery baseball went all the way to centerfield and the base runner high-stepped his way to third and would scamper home on a Stoneking wild pitch. Stoneking settled down and retired the next two batters, including the final batter on strikes, but the damage was done and Tyler re-took the lead at 7-6.

In the bottom of the sixth, the rains came down a little harder and Stoneking couldn’t get the ball over the plate and walked numerous batters. He also tossed several wild pitches that resulted in a pair of runs. McGuane came in relief and gave up a couple of hits that resulted in two more Consolidated runs.

Valley got a stand-up triple off the bat of Palmer, but he would be stranded when Stoneking was robbed of a single on a nice play by the Knight shortstop.

The ‘Jacks got two more hits in the seventh, but couldn’t get them home and that was the ball game.

Despite seven walks, Stoneking struck out 10 Silver Knight batters, while McGuane sat down one on strikes. Stoneking helped himself out at the plate with a sacrifice fly, while McGuane followed suit with a pair of singles.

In addition, Palmer belted a triple and smacked a pair of singles, while knocking in a run. Taylor Bates singled four times, plating one, while Tyler Hayes singled and doubled, while knocking in a run.

Valley will have played St. Marys after the paper went to press Tuesday. If Valley wins, the ‘Jacks will play at 5 p.m. today at Kidwell against the same Silver Knights.

Valley 6, Frontier 7

Brandon Stoneking singled, homered and scored twice while striking out nine Frontier Cougar batters, but it wasn’t enough as Frontier scored three runs in the seventh to upend Valley 7-6 in high school baseball action in New Matamoras May 1.

The Cougars scored first in the opening frame. However, the Lumberjacks tacked on four runs on four hits to get the party started to open the second. After the dinger by Stoneking, the ‘Jacks received three straight free rides to first and scored on RBI singles by Chase West and Collin Bates.

Frontier scored twice in the second and once more in the fourth to knot the game at four, but the Lumberjacks added two more runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-4 lead.

However, the Cougars would score three times in the home half of the seventh to gain the nod.

In addition to his homer, Stoneking lined two singles and added an RBI double. Bates contributed two singles, while Tristen Kocher and Brock Stackpole each plated a run with a single. Albert McGuane, Hayden Lemasters, Peyton Palmer, and Tyler Hayes each recorded singles.

Valley 16, East Richland 6

The Valley Lumberjacks sent 13 batters to the plate and scored eight runs on six hits in the second inning to defeat East Richland 16-6 in a mercy-rule shortened game May 4.

The ‘Jacks’ Brandon Stoneking struck out six from the mound and belted a single and a two RBI triples to pace the Lumberjacks at the plate. Peyton Palmer singled and blasted a two-run home run, while Albert McGuane singled twice and ended the game with a walkoff two-run homer in the fifth.

In addition, Hayden Lancaster contributed a pair of base hits and knocked in a run, while Tristen Kocher, Brock Stackpole, and Collin Bates each added a single for Valley.

Valley 4, Doddridge 1

The Valley Lumberjacks’ Brandon Stoneking limited the Doddridge Bulldogs to one hit, struck out 17 batters, walked one and hit one from the plate to lead Valley to a 4-1 victory April 26 in Bulldog territory.

In the opening stanza, Doddridge got on the board first without the benefit of a hit. Although the first Doddridge batter struck out, he got to first on a passed ball. He then moved around to third on a pair of ground outs and waltzed home on another passed ball.

The Lumberjacks tied it up in the second, as third baseman Brock Stackpole singled and scored on a single from Hayden Lancaster. The Lumberjacks would tack on an insurance run, as Stoneking singled and moved quickly to third base on a single by Tristen Kocher. Stoneking came home, scored on a wild-pitch.

In the seventh, Albert McGuane singled and Hayden Lancaster walked, but was thrown out at second on a double steal. The Bulldogs issued their second free pass of the frame to Tyler Hayes. Chase West walked to load the bases for Valley and, after a strike out, Peyton Palmer drilled a single that plated a run. Another free pass walked in yet another run and, before you knew it, the Lumberjacks were up 4-2.

With the Bulldogs the last at bat of the game, Stoneking would strike out the side and end the game.

Palmer paced the seven-hit Lumberjack attack with three singles, while Stoneking, Kocher, McGuane, and Lancaster each contributing a base hit.

Valley 1, River 8

River’s Chad Isaly scattered four hits, struck out five, and walked three in six innings, while Kole Smith mopped up, striking out two and and giving up only one hit and one walk to lead River to an 8-1 decision over the Valley Lumberjacks in Hannibal May 2.

Pete Shaw started and went four innings for the ‘Jacks, striking out one and walking four, while Peyton Palmer sat down one Pilot batter and walked two.

At the plate, Collin Bates drilled a pair of singles, while Brandon Stoneking knocked in the only Lumberjack run with a solid single to right center. In addition, Rich Palmer and Taylor Bates each pounded out singles for Valley.

The Pilots’ Kameron Brown had two singles and plated three runs that included a nifty suicide squeeze, while Logan Lucas and Cody Caldwell each added RBI singles to lead the Pilots at the plate.
