Running Clinic Set In April
West Virginia long running coach Matt Young and the Dirty Dog 15K will host a beginners trail-running workshop.
This two-part trail-running clinic will be April 14 and 21. It will teach the important aspects of trail running.
Week one covers the essentials for running trails, including benefits, form and technique, running hills up and down, pacing, trail marking, aid stations, and the Dirty Dog Course.
The week ends with a run on the first half of the course.
The second week covers gear, hydration, shoes, safety, and a preview of the second half of the course. Both sessions start at 2 p.m.
Register at active.com or visit wvruncoach.com. Cost is $30 per individual or $60 per family.
The Dirty Dog 15k is featured in Running Times and Blue Ridge Outdoors Magazines. It was voted as a top trail race in the east by Trail Runner Magazine and was named “best doggy race” in Runners World. The Dirty Dog 15K celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. The 15K event takes place in Kanawha State Forest on May 18. View more details and register for the race at www.wvmtr.org/events.
Young says, “I have been Road Runner Club of America (RRCA) Certified Coach since 2009 and created the Genesis 5K Training Program, now in its seventh season. I’m certified through Newton Running Company to coach natural running that encourages efficient running and reduces the risk of running injuries.
