River Pilots Win Sectional Crown

Brett “Hitman” Price converted 10-17 shots from the floor, including five from Los Angeles, to lead the River Pilots to a 64-35 victory over the Bridgeport Bulldogs in the Division IV Sectional Co-Championship March 1 at Union Local High School.

Cody Caldwell followed with a dozen markers that included a pair from beyond the arc, while Matt Marconi added 11 points, five rebounds, five assists, and made a pair of steals.

In addition, Jordan Indermuhle and Chad Isaly each recorded four markers, while Kameron Brown, Evan Eggleston, Eric Dierkes, and Jarrett Armann each netted a deuce.

Caldwell and Price hauled in seven and six rebounds, respectively. The win pushed the Pilot win-loss record to 17-7 and a date with the Shadyside Tigers March 5 at Union Local High School in the district semifinals.

The River Pilots moved one step closer to another shot at going to the Ohio Districts after taking care of Bishop Rosecrans 36-31 in a low-scoring affair in the Ohio Division IV Sectional Semifinals Feb. 26 inside Union Local High School Gymnasium.

The Pilots’ Matt Marconi scored a team-high 15 points, that included three baskets from beyond the arc, while Brett “Hitman” Price followed with nine markers and cleaned the glass with nine to pace the Pilots offense.

In addition, Jordan Indermuhle tallied seven points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, while Chad Isaly sank a threeball and Kameron Brown swished a deuce.
