The Hornets’ Katie Tennant scored 22 points, pulled down 11 rebounds, and blocked four shots, but it didn’t keep the Valley Lumberjills from claiming a 52-48 win Feb. 14 in the Hornets’ Nest.

In the first quarter Lindsay Jones and Oshana Topp each drilled a basket from beyond the arc to pace the Hornets, while Alisha Carter netted a pair of bonus bombs for the ‘Jills in a 10-10 first period score.

In the second period Tennant tallied 10 of the Hornets’ 12 points to take a 22-21 lead at the break. For Valley, Madison Arnold sank a pair of deuces, while Carter nailed her third triple of the half to keep it close.

The roles were reversed in the third period, as the Lumberjills outscored Hundred 14-12 to knot the game at 35 heading into the final period of play.

The ‘Jills’ Megan Bucher tallied eight points in the quarter, including a basket from beyond the arc, while Tennant kept the score close, leading Hundred with seven of the 12 Hornet points in the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, both teams played even until the ‘Jills’ Karissa Headley drove to the hole and was fouled twice by the Hornets’ Tennant, fouling her out of the game with five minutes remaining.

From this point, Bucher nailed a deuce and cashed in on five of six free throws, while Headley netted a pair of deuces and Carter swished the cords from beyond the arc to secure the win for Valley.

But it wasn’t quite over, just yet. The Lady Hornets made a late charge with triples from Topp and Lindsay Jones. Then Emily Ebert netted a deuce and sank three free throws. But it was a little to late.

Topp followed Tennant in scoring for the Lady Hornets with 11 markers, including a pair of threeballs, while Ebert added nine points and pulled down 10 boards. Jones scored six points and dished out as many assists. Paige Shriver failed to score, but dished out five assists and cleaned the glass with 10 rebounds.

For the victorious ‘Jills, Bucher netted a team-high 17 points, while Carter sank 14 markers, including four three-point baskets. Headley added eight assists and rebounds, while sinking nine points. In addition, Arnold and Samantha Thomas evenly divided 12 points, 16 rebounds, and two blocked shots.

Each team had their troubles at the charity line. Hundred made nine of 16 chances, while Valley sank only seven of 18.
