Lumberjills Lose To Dragons, 58-51

By Staff | Jan 16, 2013

In hostile territory, Valley’s Brittany Sivert erupted for 18 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Dragons sent the Lady Lumberjills packing with a hard-fought 58-51 loss Jan. 8.

Valley held on for a one-point advantage after the first eight minutes of play and posted a 15-14 second period score to head into the locker room, up 28-26.

Both teams scored 13 points in the third period before Cameron put the game away on the free throw line. The Dragons netted 18-38 charity tosses, while the hard-luck ‘Jills cashed in on only five of 15.

Besides Sivert, the ‘Jills’ Alicia Carter tallied nine points, while Karissa Headley netted eight points. Both players ripped the cords once from downtown.

Megan Bucher and Samantha Thomas each contributed six points, while Abigail Wiley and Sarah Bassett each netted a deuce. Bucher also added 11 rebounds, while Headley grabbed seven to lead the ‘Jills in that department.

“We just can’t seem to put together a rally in the fourth period, and its frustrating when the other team lives at the charity line, and we play the same type of game and only see an occasional trio,” said Valley Head Coach Lance Binegar.
