Lady Hornets Split Four Games In Week

Hundred 60, Notre Dame 58

The Lady Hornets’ Lindsay Jones nailed three overtime freebies to defeat Notre Dame 60-58 in girls basketball action Jan. 8 in Clarksburg.

Hundred took a 12-10 lead after one period, but the Lady Irish knotted the game at 23 at the break.

Hundred went up by four points after three quarters and increased its advantage to a dozen with three minutes to play in regulation. However, the Notre Dame squad chipped at the Hornet lead and tied it with a deuce as time expired, sending the game into overtime.

Paige Shriver scored the only basket in the extra period, while Katie Tennant and Jones swished free throws to give the visitors the win.

Tennant and Emily Ebert tallied triple doubles to pace the Hornets. Tennant netted a team-high 22 points, 14 rebounds and 10 blocked shots, while Ebert contributed 19 points, 11 rebounds and dished out 10 assists.

In addition, Jones scored eight points and hauled in a game-high 15 rebounds, while Shriver netted five markers. Oshana Topp provided three points, while Josie Phillips added a deuce, and Dakota Kuhn a free throw.

The Lady Hornets will entertain Cameron Thursday before traveling to Paden City Saturday. Both games are set for a 6 p.m. junior varsity tip, with the varsity game to follow.

Hornets 45, Lumberjills 41

Hundred cashed in on seven of 14 free throws, while the Valley Lumberjills didn’t attempt any, to pave the way for Hundred to claim a 45-41 first-round H.I.T. girls’ basketball victory Jan. 12 inside the Hornets Nest.

The Lady Hornets led 14-10 after one period, but the ‘Jills – despite the absence of three starters – narrowed the gap to 21-18 at the break.

The Lumberjills exploded for 18 points in the third, and went on top 33-31. But, the Lady Hornets would notch 16 points in the frame to take a one-point lead with one period remaining.

In the fourth period, Valley would tally a Megan Martin triple and a Samantha Thomas deuce, while Hundred’s Katie Tennant and Oshana Topp each knocked down a deuce. Tennant and Lindsay Jones each netted a pair of charity tosses that gave Hundred the nod.

Tennant scored a game-high 20 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double, while Jones netted 10 points and recorded four steals and made three assists. Topp followed with eight markers and hauled in eight rebounds, while Paige Shriver tacked on four points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Emily Ebert was held to three points, but grabbed nine rebounds.

For the Lumberjills, Karissa Headley and Megan Martin teamed for 22 points, including four three pointers, while Alisha Carter penciled in eight points.

In addition, Madison “Twiggy” Arnold and Samantha Thomas each recorded four points, while Abigail Willey netted a long range bomb.

Valley’s missing starters were absent for different reasons, including one player who was sidelined with a concussion.

West Greene 45, Hundred 39

Host West Greene took a 20-7 lead in the second period and held on for a 45-39 victory last week over the Hundred Hornets.

Ebert paced Hundred with 11 points, while Topp tallied seven points. Tennant and Shriver each contributed six points, while Josie Phillips tacked on four markers; Jones, three; and Nikki Cunningham, two points.

Clay-Battelle 71, Hundred 20

The Lady Cee-Bees used a devastating man-to-man full-court press to take a 31-0 lead in the first quarter and coasted to a 71-20 victory over the Lady Hornets last week in Barricksville.

Topp and Shriver each netted a triple and a deuce, while Tennant tacked on a pair of two pointers. Ebert and Ashley Miller each recorded a deuce for Hundred.
