Paden City 50, Hundred 43

The Paden City Lady Wildcats used a 20-12 run in the fourth period to defeat the Hundred Hornets, 50-43, in girls’ basketball action Dec. 18 at Bob Burton Gymnasium.

Hundred defeated Paden City 47-29 in their first meeting Dec. 11 at Hundred and looked to the task by taking an 11-3 advantage after the first eight minutes of play. Hornets Katie Tennant and Emily Ebert did all the scoring for Hundred, while Taylor and Logan Cosper put up points for the Lady ‘Cats.

However, Paden City picked up the pace and nibbled at the Hornet lead in period two, with the help of Hannah Stanley setting the nets on fire with a pair of long range bombs and a deuce. But, five different Hornets cashed in with buckets to keep Hundred on top at 22-17 heading into the locker room.

Led by Myah Charkawi’s triple and deuce, five Lady ‘Cats scored to trim their deficit to one point, 31-30, heading into the final frame.

Hundred extended its lead early in the fourth only to see a Charkawi threeball key Paden City’s first lead of the game with three minutes remaining in regulation.

The game see-sawed back and forth until the ‘Cats’ Taylor Cosper and Cydney Blatt both drained a deuce to give the hosts the lead for keeps.

Charkawi paced Paden City with a game-high 15 points, while Hannah Stanley came off the bench to add 10 points that included a pair of three pointers.

In addition, Logan and Taylor Cosper each followed with eight points, while Lynnsie Parsons drained a pair of two pointers. Blatt and Kelsey Loy each tallied a basket, while Kayla Barker swished a charity toss.

Blatt paced Paden City in rebounding with nine boards, while Parsons and Taylor Cosper each grabbed five off the glass.

Leading the Hornet charge was Ebert with 11 points and 11 rebounds and Tennant with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Lindsay Jones followed with seven markers that included a triple, while Paige Shriver tacked on six points.

In addition, Oshana Topp drilled a long-range basket, while Dakota Kuhn and Emily Rine each netted a deuce.

Magnolia 56, Oak Glen 47

The Eagles’ Grace Berisford and Mallory Chapman combined for 31 points that included three baskets from beyond the arc to help lift Magnolia to its third win of the season, 56-47, over the Oak Glen Lady Golden Bears Dec. 17 inside the Eagles HammerDome.

Magnolia raced out to a commanding 18-7 lead and never looked back in handing the Lady Bears their second loss of the season.

Chapman finished the night with a double-double, 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Berisford, Kiera Standiford, and Katie Blatt each dished out a team-high three assists.

Standiford also recorded eight rebounds, three steals, and one block to go along with her seven points. Blatt chipped in with five steals, four rebounds, two blocks, and eight markers.

In addition, Audrey Gibb netted five points, pulled down three boards, and blocked two Lady Bear shots. Jasmine Litton sank a pair of jumpers and swished a charity toss, grabbed seven rebounds, and hijacked a basketball. Abby During didn’t score, but she made two steals and recorded an assist.

River 67, Magnolia 39

The Lady Pilots defeated the Magnolia Blue Eagles 67-39 in girls basketball hoops, Dec. 19 at R.L. Potts Gymnasium.

Laken Ramsay continued her torrid scoring ways with a game-high 18 points, that included two bonus bombs, while Cassidy McCullough knocked in 15 markers for the Pilots.

In addition, Landyn Ramsay netted nine points, including one from downtown, while Jensen Caretti added eight points, half dozen blocked shots, and removed a dozen loose balls off the glass. Haylee Bowers contributed five points, while Hannah Jones and Emile Weaver each drilled a deuce and tickled the twine twice at the charity line. Mackenzie Marshall ended the Pilot scoring with a deuce.

For the Blue Eagles, Kiera Standiford netted a team-high 11 points, while Grace Berisford tallied seven markers, including a triple. Mallory Chapman was held to a season-low six points, while Katie Blatt and Audrey Gibb each netted four points, and Jasmine Litton tallied a put back.

The Lady Pilots will visit Buckeye Trail, Dec. 27, while the Eagles will host Tyler Consolidated. Both games start with the junior varsity game set for 6 p.m. with the varsity to follow, approximately around 7:30 p.m.
